He Chased His First Love Through the Snow-and Lost Me Chapter 05
The absolute lack of affection in my eyes finallyÂ
made Garett flinch. A heavy frown settled betweenÂ
his brows.Â
“Vivian, as long as you behave and show some respect, I can grant you whatever you want,” he said, his tone shifting into an arrogant negotiation. “A trip for your son, or even the official title of my legal wife.”Â
Years ago, I would have crawled through glass for that marriage certificate. But while we lived under this roof, he routinely paraded Natasha through high–society galas, letting the world believe she was the true mistress of the house. Now that my heart was dead, he was using it as a bargainingÂ
chip.Â
Ignoring the throbbing pain on my sliced cheek, I looked him dead in the eye. “I don’t want it anymore, Garett. We are completely through.”Â
Perhaps because I had spent a decadeÂ
worshipping him, he flatly refused to believe I could ever truly walk away. He let out aÂ
condescending chuckle. “What? Not going to drop to your knees and beg me to play daddy for yourÂ
kid anymore?”Â
Before I could unleash my fury, Natasha chimedÂ
- in. “Vivian, stop playing games with Garett. If Andy was truly on his deathbed, how could you possibly be lounging around here by yourself?”Â
“Shut up!” I snapped, my voice echoing likeÂ
thunder. “Neither of you has the right to utter myÂ
son’s name.”Â
Natasha immediately shrank back with aÂ
wounded expression, looking at Garett forÂ
protection. My hostility toward her finally snapped Garett’s remaining restraint.Â
With a cold sneer, he pulled out his smartphone and he buzzed his executive assistant over theÂ
intercom so I wouldn’t miss a single word.Â
“Assistant, find out which hospital Vivian hid herÂ
son in. Issue an executive order: cut off all hisÂ
medical funding and terminate his treatmentÂ
immediately.”Â
He held the phone with absolute confidence,Â
certain this leverage would bring me to my knees.Â
I simply let out a tragic, hollow smile.Â
There was a long, suffocating silence on the otherÂ
end of the line before the assistant finally spoke,Â
his voice trembling. “Mr… Mr. Vance… I’m sorry,Â
Andy was gone. He died the day after youÂ
disappeared.”Â
Garett’s smile froze. “What did you say?”
