My Cruel Bestie Mocked Me to Please His Muse, Unaware I Was Flying to Harvard with a True Genius Chapter 08
Zach’s face went white. He looked up abruptly. “What did you say?”
He rushed over and grabbed the classmate by the collar.
“I’m warning you – don’t talk nonsense. I watched Sophie submit her applications with my own eyes. She applied to Boston University – just like me. How could she have gotten into Harvard?”
Everyone’s eyes turned to me.
Jasmine also looked jealous. “Sophie, I think you’re just bragging. Those classmates must be your plants.
You clearly applied to Boston University. How could you possibly get into Harvard?”
I didn’t respond. Instead, I calmly walked out.
“This doesn’t match what I’ve heard,” someone murmured. “Isn’t Sophie supposed to be the school
heartthrob’s shadow? I never thought even a clingy pest would stop clinging one day. And look at Zach’s face
– it’s like he’s the one desperately chasing after her now.”
I lost interest in those comments and started walking faster.
Until Zach, pale as a ghost, caught up with me.
“Sophie.”
Jasmine called from behind, “Zach, where are you going? Come back.”
But he kept coming. “Sophie, you still haven’t told me what’s going on. We filled out our applications together. I saw with my own eyes – you chose Boston University. How could you have gotten into Harvard?”
I looked down and smiled. “I changed my application. Is that a problem?”
Zach stared at me in disbelief. “Why?” His eyes were red. He grabbed my shoulders and shook me. “Didn’t you promise me? You said you’d go to Boston University with me. We agreed. What gives you the right to
decide on your own?”
It was true. I had promised Zach that if he didn’t get into Harvard, I’d give it up and go to another school –
just so we could stay together.
Because I loved him.
But what I couldn’t accept was that he applied to Boston University because of Jasmine.
Her scores weren’t high enough for Harvard, so he made concession after concession for her.
When it came time to fill out applications, he bought me a cake to cheer me up. “Sophie, let’s apply to Boston University together. It’s not as famous as Harvard, but it’s still a top university. Anyway, I’ve already decided
on it. You should come with me.”
But later, I heard it with my own ears
Jasmine came to brag. “Did you know? While you were slaving away copying notes for Zach, he and I were already kissing in the woods. Didn’t you see the way he looked at me? His eyes were practically glued to me. Childhood friends? I’ll crush him in a heartbeat. Let me be honest, Sophie – even if Zach helps you get into college someday, it won’t be so he can be with you. It’ll be so you can serve us better as a slave Hahaha”
The humiliation hit me like a wave.
Right then, I decided to change my application.
And I’ve never regretted it.
“What do you mean, ‘on your own’?” I took a step back and smiled coldly. “Zach, please understand – how I do on the SATs is my business. Which school I apply to is also my decision. I hope you can sort this out. It has nothing to do with you.”
“Besides, you said it yourself – you didn’t want anything to do with me anymore. We’ve already cut ties. Good luck in the future, and I hope we never see each other again.”
I spoke the last sentence softly.
I watched as the color drained from Zach’s face, inch by inch.
Then I gave a polite smile, turned, and walked away without hesitation.
“Sophie! Stop right there.”
