My Parents Spoiled Adopted Daughter While Neglected Me, I Sneaked To Hometown Pack Chapter 06

Right before they left, Lawrence stuck his head out the car window and kept telling me,

“Hannah, take care of yourself. Be careful going alone. I’ll send you some money. Don’t be cheap on the trip. Call us when you get to the academy.”

I watched them drive away with a polite smile on my face and nodded at them.

The second they were gone, I packed my things.

I called the airline and canceled my ticket. Then I ordered an Uber and headed for my real home.

From the moment I stepped out of the pack house, I was already getting closer to home.

It had been ten years since I’d last been there, but the name of that place was carved into my heart so deep I could never forget it.

My home was Frostveil Island.

When I left, my sister was still young. Now she had to be grown.

If I remembered right, she loved pretty things.

She used to sneak Mom’s high heels and wear them around until she twisted her ankle. And even then, she wouldn’t take them off.

I’d saved up my money for a long time and bought her a pair of Christian Louboutin red-bottom heels.

Dad, my adoptive dad, always liked to have a drink at dinner.

He used to say he wanted to taste real wine someday.

He never got the chance before he died.

I packed a bottle of red wine for him in the middle of my suitcase, wrapped in layers of clothes so it wouldn’t break.

And Mom, she always said her biggest dream was to see me and my sister become great werewolf warriors.

Especially to join The Shadow Unit, the one the whole pack looked up to.

I tucked my acceptance letter into the suitcase right next to Dad’s wine.

And I started the journey home.

Ten years had changed my age. Changed my face. But it couldn’t change how much I loved my home.

When I finally reached Frostveil Island, the cool ocean breeze swept through the forest territory.

Leaves rustled overhead.

For a second, I felt like I was a little pup again.

The empty stretches of land I remembered were now thick with greenery.

This “remote place” Lawrence had sneered at? It had grown into something alive and thriving.

I didn’t know if our old house was still there. If my sister still lived in it.

The not-knowing made my stomach twist. But I was excited too.

I slowed my pace and walked carefully toward home. The closer I got, the more familiar everything became.

When I was little, my parents made me memorize every landmark near our house so I wouldn’t get lost.

I still remembered every single one.

The old neighborhood hadn’t changed. Just the decorations on the buildings.

I walked through the trees, taking it all in, until I finally saw the apartment building again.

It hadn’t changed either. Like it had been waiting for me to come back.

A two-bedroom place. My parents had spent every penny they had on it. And they only got to live in it for six months.

But those six months? They held more happy memories than my entire brain could process.

My legs were shaking when I walked up the steps.

I could’ve taken them in one stride. But it took me a full minute to reach the door.

Was my sister still here?

Would I mess up her peaceful life if I came back?

Had she already forgotten me?

Would she even want to see me?

All the questions I hadn’t let myself think about on the way here came crashing down on me the second I raised my hand to knock.

I froze. My hand hovered in the air.

Click.

The door swung open.

A well-dressed middle-aged she-wolf stood in front of me.
