My Alpha Mate Kissed Another Omega On Stage, I Step Back To Fulfill Their Love Chapter 08

My Alpha Mate Kissed Another Omega On Stage, I Step Back To Fulfill Their Love Chapter 08

In the end, I didn’t let him in.

A heavy storm swept through Whisperwind Gorge that night.

Through the balcony glass, I caught his reflection-standing there in the rain. His clothes were soaked through.

Head lowered, he stood there in silence, lost in his own thoughts.

Rain traced down his hair, down his neck. He looked like an abandoned rogue.

My gaze drifted to the photo on the wall-my mother and me.

The tear down the middle had been taped back together.

But some things, no matter how carefully you mend them, are never whole again.

The next morning, James approached me the moment I stepped outside.

I glanced at the sandwich and carton of milk in his hands.

“Nelly.” His eyes were bloodshot from a sleepless night.

“Your stomach always bothers you. I brought breakfast.”

I gave the food a brief look. “I’m allergic to cheese spread.”

His hand froze midair. “I thought you were allergic to seafood.”

I looked at him quietly. “I’ve never been allergic to seafood.”

His face went still.

“Back when you first became Alpha, the pack didn’t have much.”

“Money was tight. I didn’t want to burden you, so I made that up. About the seafood.”

I never took the breakfast. I got in my car and left.

In the rearview mirror, I watched his arm slowly fall to his side.

Then he crouched on the curb, head in his hands.

Even from a distance, I knew he was crying.

He looked pitiful. But the pity I used to feel-it was gone.

A few days later, a friend from Aurorun Pack called me.

Someone had put in an offer on my house. I had to go back and sign the papers.

The paperwork went through faster than I expected.

I had just stepped out of the building when someone came rushing at me.

Before I could react, she collapsed to the ground with a loud thud.

It was Lorraine.

Behind her, a crowd of reporters surged forward with cameras flashing.

“Nelly!” Lorraine grabbed the leg of my pants. Tears streamed down her face in a spectacular

performance.

“You’re selling your house and moving south-and you’re just going to abandon me?”

“Fine if you don’t want to take care of me anymore.”

“But cutting me off? You’re leaving me with nothing. You’re pushing me into a corner!”

More and more pack members gathered around us.

Soon, fingers were pointing in my direction.

“Is she that cold-blooded? Selling her house and leaving her Omega sister to fend for herself?”

“How selfish. She must be a terrible person.”

Just then, James pushed through the crowd.

Lorraine’s eyes lit up at the sight of him-her lifeline.

“Alpha!” She crawled toward him and clutched at his leg.

“Please, talk to Nelly. This is all my fault.”

“I’ll beg for her forgiveness. Just please-don’t let her cut me off.”

But James’s voice came out like ice. “Then learn to stand on your own.”

His words cut her performance short. I’d never heard him speak to her like that.

The tears in her eyes just hung there. Shock. Confusion. “What?”

James looked down at her, utterly indifferent.

“You passed the aptitude test. You work as a clerk now. And you can’t support yourself?”

Lorraine’s mouth opened, but nothing came out.

James went on. “Nelly took care of you for years. Gave you everything-opportunities, protection, a

future.”

“And this is how you repay her? Standing here, twisting the truth, making her look like the villain?”

His voice hardened. “Or have you just gotten used to the easy way out?”

“Expecting her to spend her life paving your path while you do nothing?”

The moment those words landed, the crowd went quiet. The accusations stopped cold.

One by one, the cameras turned. Away from me. Onto her.

The pitiful Omega was now the one under the spotlight.
