My Alpha Mate Kissed Another Omega On Stage, I Step Back To Fulfill Their Love Chapter 06

My Alpha Mate Kissed Another Omega On Stage, I Step Back To Fulfill Their Love Chapter 06

The day I was set to leave Ashenwood had come.

I had my suitcase in hand, ready to leave the pack house for good.

To my surprise, Lorraine pushed the door open and walked inside.

“Nelly, where are you going?”

She casually brushed a loose strand of hair behind her ear.

A delicate diamond ring engraved with a wolf insignia sparkled on her left ring finger.

“I convinced Alpha to come back and spend some time with you. He said he’d drop by-as a favor to

me.”

I had no interest in speaking to her. I tried to step around her, but she blocked my way.

“Nelly, you’ve taken care of me for so many years. How should I thank you?”

A familiar ache twisted through my chest. I shook off her hand, cold.

Lorraine didn’t seem bothered at all. She just kept talking, like we were two friends chatting.

“Nelly, actually, Alpha and I have been in contact for over a year.”

I went still.

“Do you remember that time you were hospitalized?”

“Alpha told you the pack elders had called an emergency meeting and left you alone at the medical

center.”

She smiled. “But that day was my birthday.”

“He remembered. Spent the whole day with me.”

She revealed each betrayal one by one, making sure nothing stayed hidden.

Each word crushed another piece of what little I’d still been holding on to.

“And this ring.” She raised her hand and admired the diamond.

“Alpha said you’d wanted it for a long time.”

“I just looked at it a couple of times, and he bought it. For me.”

Looking at the undisguised provocation on her face, nausea churned in stomach.

Just then, the door opened. James walked in.

my

His gaze landed on the suitcase in my hand. A faint frown crossed his face.

“Why so much luggage? Isn’t this just another assignment?”

I ignored him and kept walking.

As I pushed past them, a photo slipped from my bag.

It was the only photo I had of my mother. The only one left after her death.

Lorraine snatched it up before I could.

“Nelly, is this your mother?”

She studied it. “She was so young.”

Then she tilted her head. “How did she die?”

“Give it back!” I lunged for it.

She refused to let go. The old photo tore right in two.

My blood ran cold.

Lorraine covered her mouth in exaggerated horror.

“Oh no! Nelly, I tore it by accident-what should I do?”

Before she could finish, my palm cracked across her face. The slap echoed.

Lorraine screamed and crumpled to the floor.

She held her cheek and started crying.

“Nelly… I didn’t mean to… How could you…?”

I moved toward her again.

Before I could get to her, James grabbed me from behind, holding me back.

“Nelly, have you lost your mind?” His voice was thick with anger. “Lorraine’s never tried to take. anything from you.”

“It’s just a photo. Was it really worth hitting her?”

I stared at the torn picture still clutched in my hand.

Rage surged through me. Without a word, I turned and slapped him. Hard. Across the face.

The room went dead silent.

His head snapped to the side. He froze. Completely still.

For years, I had never laid a hand on him.

I couldn’t stand seeing him so much as scratch himself without worrying for hours.

Looking at the man before me, I realized-maybe I had never truly known him at all.

The humiliation, heartbreak, and anger I had endured over the past weeks flooded through me all

at once.

My eyes burned. Tears slid down my face.

James just stared, as if he couldn’t find his voice.

“You…” He reached out on instinct to wipe my tears.

I smacked his hand away. “You think I’m jealous?”

I swallowed every ounce of pain and anger, looked him dead in the eye, and spoke each word clear

as day.

“James. You’re not worth it.”

His throat bobbed. For a second, he couldn’t say a word.

Then his gaze drifted to the table. That thin sheet of paper. The resignation approval.

He moved toward it.

But before he could get close enough to read it, Lorraine began crying again.

The sound yanked his attention right back.

After a heartbeat of hesitation, he chose. Again.

He bent down and lifted Lorraine into his arms.

“Calm down.” He looked at me like I was crazy. Like I was the one making a scene.

“When you get back from your assignment, we’ll talk.”

The words barely left his mouth before he turned and walked away, Lorraine still in his arms. Without looking back.
