My Alpha Mate Kissed Another Omega On Stage, I Step Back To Fulfill Their Love Chapter 05
James hadn’t returned to the pack house for an entire week.
That day, the doorbell finally rang.
“Nelly.” Lorraine walked in, supporting a visibly drunk James.
I stood by the sofa, my eyes going straight to the lipstick stain on his neck.
“Nelly…””
“The moment James saw me, he reached out as if to pull me into a hug.
I stepped away before he could touch me.
His hand hung there, awkward and empty.
“Don’t be so ungrateful.”
His words slurred. “Lorraine’s younger than you. More understanding.”
“If she hadn’t asked me to come back, I wouldn’t have bothered.”
I looked at them standing there and let out a hollow laugh.
“What are you laughing at?”
The mask James had been maintaining finally began to crack.
“I told you, she’s just a younger sister. I’ve been helping you-trying to ease your burden.”
His voice sharpened. “Can you just—”
Lorraine tugged gently on his sleeve, tears already shimmering in her eyes.
“Alpha, please don’t argue with Nelly because of me.”
The moment James heard the tremor in her voice, his expression softened instantly.
!
Then he shot me a vicious glare before turning back to Lorraine, his voice dropping into something
soft.
“It’s okay. She’s just jealous. You’re young. Beautiful.”
Then his eyes landed on me again. “Nelly, apologize to Lorraine right now.
His face was flushed from alcohol, but his voice was ice cold.
I stayed silent. Not giving an inch.
“No apology, I’m not coming back.” He crossed his arms, staring me down.
As if he were absolutely certain I’d cave. And why wouldn’t he be?
Over the past seven years, whenever we disagreed, he would threaten to leave. And every time, I
caved.
But this time, meeting his eyes, I just said calmly, “James. Let’s break our mate bond.”
“What?” His voice shot up instantly. Disbelief spread across his face.
“Nelly, we’ve been mates for seven years.”
“Over something this trivial-you’re talking about breaking our mate bond?”
Even now, he still thought it was trivial.
Looking at the way he looked at her, I saw it. Something I hadn’t seen in years. Love. Pure, unmistakable tenderness.
And for the first time, I admitted the truth to myself. He had never truly cared. Not once.
I stayed silent.
James ran a frustrated hand through his hair and stepped closer.
“Alright, enough.” His tone softened, just a fraction.
“I won’t do it again, okay? The game. Next time.”
He said it like he was granting me a favor. “There. Happy?”
Lorraine’s whole body trembled, tears instantly streaming down her face.
Turning to me, she slipped right back into that pitiful mask.
“This’s all my fault. Nelly, please don’t be angry.”
When James saw that I remained completely unmoved, his face darkened entirely.
He stepped forward and pulled Lorraine tightly into his arms.
Then he turned on me. “That’s enough, Nelly!”
“She’s crying. Begging. So you happy now?”
A bitter laugh nearly broke free. Happy? For what, exactly?
James tightened his hold on Lorraine.
“I knew it. All that kindness-just an act. You’re not fit to be Luna.
I looked down at the man who had once promised I was the only one he’d ever love.
Now he held Lorraine like she was the most precious thing in the world.
That concern. That heartbreak. It used to be reserved for me.
James helped the tearful Lorraine to her feet.
“Look what you did.” His voice dripped with blame.
“Don’t come crying to me when you want me back, Nelly.”
He kicked the door open, harder than necessary.
Before leaving, he looked back one last time. “Think carefully.”
“Seven years, Nelly. You’re not young. Who else is going to want you?”
I didn’t answer.
My eyes had already drifted to the bedside table, where a document sat with an official stamp. My resignation letter.
If he’d bothered to glance over, he would have seen it-would have known I was leaving Ashenwood.
But James never did.
Because this time, I was the one walking away. Completely. For good.
