The Bride He Was Warned Not to Marry Chapter 06

Sarah softened her voice and tried to take my hand again, her eyes glistening.

“Emily, can we go back to how we used to be?”

She dared to bring up the past.

“Get out. Sarah, I never want to see you again.”

Sarah flinched at the ice in my eyes and stepped back.

William’s face flickered with pity. He reached out to steady her.

“So what if we lied to you? Emily, ask yourself. Have we ever treated you badly?”

“Sarah hasn’t slept or eaten well over this. I’ve done everything to make you happier.”

“Everyone tried their best not to hurt you. Why can’t you just let this go?”

“I told you she was a snake. But you wouldn’t listen. You had to marry her. Now look what happened. How are you supposed to protect Sarah now?”

The William from ten years later still didn’t realize he had taken out the earbuds and could no longer be heard.

All he did was attack me and call me names, and listening to it, I felt nothing but disbelief.

They were the ones in the wrong. And yet here they were, blaming me for being heartless.

I had nothing left to say to them.

I turned to the detectives and the reporter. “I’ll submit the rest of the documents later. Do we need to go give statements now?”

If I looked at them one more second, I thought I might lose my mind.

The reporter glanced at William with disgust, then pulled a business card from her bag and handed

it to me.

“Contact me anytime. I’ll turn over everything we shot today to the station. Someone will likely reach out for an interview.”

I nodded and took the card.

William finally snapped out of it. “Emily, you’re serious?”

He stepped in front of the reporter. “You can’t leave. Whatever you recorded, destroy it right now.”

But before he finished, the two detectives pulled out handcuffs.

“Mr. Harrington, you’re under investigation for forgery of government documents, fraud, and

bigamy.”

“Please come with us to the station.”

His face went pale, but he quickly regained his composure.

He glanced at me and pulled out his phone to call his lawyer.

I ignored him and walked out.

Sarah looked at William, then ran after me. “Emily, where are you going? Can I come with you?”

The sun was bright in my eyes; I squinted, unable to quite make out her expression.

After all these years, today felt like the first time I really saw her.

“Sarah, from the moment you got involved with William, there was never going to be an ‘us’

again.”

“Don’t follow me. You should think about your job and the baby you’re carrying.”

“Soon the whole country will know how you seduced your best friend’s fiancé.”

“Your downfall is going to be just as hard as William’s.”

Sarah grabbed my arm, her voice thick with tears. “I don’t care about any of that.”

“Emily, if I had to choose between you and William, I’d pick you.”

“If you don’t want this baby, I’ll get rid of it. If you want it, I’ll have it.”

“You can’t have children. Having a baby wouldn’t be a bad thing.”

I cut her off. “Sarah. I can’t even look at William without feeling disgusted. Why would I want his child?”
