The Luna’s Choice Chapter 08
When Julian saw me, his mouth opened andÂ
closed several times.Â
His eyes were red in a terrifying way.Â
Just as I was about to leave, he murmured from behind me.Â
“Bella, my father told me the men in our family are cursed with infertility.”Â
“You were the mate Margaret found for me on purpose. In this vast world, two people meeting at all is already rare enough. But you were the only one who could give me a child.”Â
“A bond like that is almost impossible to find.”Â
“Our child is dead. I may never have another one for the rest of my life.”Â
At last, he understood everything.Â
No wonder Margaret had said those strange,Â
meaningful things to him before.Â
No wonder his father had agreed to let Bella marryÂ
Justin.Â
I did not answer him.Â
Justin pushed my wheelchair forward. TheÂ
moment we passed through the door, JulianÂ
called out behind me.Â
“Bella, is there really no chance for us anymore?”Â
I gave a soft hum. “No.”Â
Behind me he collapsed into broken, hitching.Â
sobs.Â
Three months later, my body had fully recovered,Â
and Alpha Mike was stripped of his title by theÂ
pack elders and driven out of the Silver MoonÂ
Pack.Â
Kaven and her mother sensed that something wasÂ
wrong and tried to run before it was too late.Â
A collapsed, half–mad Mike tore them apart withÂ
his own hands.Â
He wanted to see me once.Â
I treated him as if he did not exist.Â
On the day Justin and I held our mating ceremony,Â
Julian drank himself senseless.Â
He became the object of everyone’s ridicule.Â
He did not argue.Â
He only kept rubbing the Moon Goddess ring in hisÂ
hand.Â
It was the one I had thrown away.Â
We never spoke again and our paths neverÂ
crossed again. It wouldn’t be long before he wouldÂ
end up just like Alpha Mike.Â
Justin smoothly absorbed the Blackwood Pack.Â
He appointed another, more gifted Alpha to leadÂ
Blackwood, while the Northern Territory AllianceÂ
under his own rule grew prosperous andÂ
commercially powerful.Â
And I became a Luna again.Â
Only this time, I no longer had to trail after anÂ
Alpha, cleaning up the wreckage he left behind.Â
Before long, I became pregnant again.Â
As for Julian, he died at a party after accidentally ingesting wolfsbane.Â
When I heard the news, I said nothing.Â
I only asked Justin to send a bouquet to theÂ
funeral on my behalf.Â
Consider it my final goodbye to those ten years.
