He Left Me During My Miscarriage to Support His Ex—1 Year Later, He Returned to My DIVORCE Papers Chapter 08
I said,
“I forgot to tell you-I’ve moved out.”
“I won’t be heading back tonight.”
When I got to the apartment, a figure stood outside the door.
He dropped his gaze to look at me, his face empty of any emotion.
I brushed past him without a word.
He moved to follow me inside.
“Silas Mercer, can you just cut this out?”
He pulled his hand away, his voice rough and hoarse.
“Fine. I’ll wait for you out here.”
From the balcony, I spotted the black Tesla Model S sitting parked on the street the entire time.
I woke up the next morning to find him gone, and a heavy weight lifted off my chest.
Word got around that Luna Cole had been rushed back to the ICU after swallowing sleeping pills.
The last time, she’d slit her wrists.
It was nearly quitting time in the evening when Luna’s mother blocked my path in the lobby.
I tried to walk around her.
She stepped right in front of me again.
“Can we talk, just for a minute?”
Her eyes were bloodshot, and she looked utterly worn down.
“My daughter’s still trapped in the ICU.”
I forced myself to stay calm.
“Ma’am, I barely know your daughter.
Don’t come looking for me.”
The woman refused to back off.
She broke into loud sobs, drawing curious stares from everyone passing by.
I had no choice but to follow her to a nearby coffee shop.
Her eye sockets were swollen shut, her voice so raspy I could barely hear her as she spoke slowly.
“Your name’s Willa Bennett, right?
Willa, please divorce Silas.
Luna’s still head over heels for him. If our family hadn’t dragged her down, she would’ve married him ages
ago.
My daughter’s tried to take her own life twice now. They had to pump her stomach this time, and she almost
didn’t wake up.
The only thing keeping her alive right now is the thought of Silas.
You’ve got a great job, a leadership position at a huge tech firm.
Luna quit her job to care for her sick father, drained every cent of her savings on his medical bills-her life’s
nothing like yours.
I’m begging you as a mother, end your marriage with Silas.
If you sign the divorce papers, I’ll make sure he gives you a hefty settlement.
You two were never meant to be together.”
I’d never met anyone so brazen in my life.
Hot anger flared up inside me.
“You need to take that up with Silas Mercer.
I’ve wanted a divorce this whole time.
If you can somehow convince him to agree, I’ll even hand you cash myself.”
The black Tesla Model S sat parked downstairs when I stepped outside.
I walked straight over to the car.
“Silas Mercer.”
The corners of his eyes tilted upward faintly.
“Will you divorce me?
I don’t want to keep tangled up with you anymore. Luna’s mother tracked me down this afternoon.
She begged me to leave you so you could be with Luna instead.
Honestly, I think her idea sounds perfect.”
Silas let out a cold laugh, faint anger simmering deep in his eyes.
“Willa Bennett.
Do you have any idea what you’re saying?
You’re my wife.”
Thankfully, I’d recorded the entire conversation. I pulled up the audio and pressed play. Silas’s face darkened
the second he finished listening.
“Pay no mind to her.
I’ve never once considered divorcing you.
I’m sorry this happened, I’ll sort everything out.”
I spun on my heel and headed back upstairs.
