Yet, everything made sense when she thought back on Harley’s recent strange behavior.
He no longer questioned her about her relationship with Clement, nor did he show any concern for Tina’s studies. He wasn’t speaking much, either.
Sue felt a huge weight on her chest, making it difficult to breathe.
She suddenly realized that Harley had never told her about his business trip itinerary, either. In his previous business trips, he never failed to tell her that.
Yet this time, he didn’t.
Sue took a deep breath and immediately called Harley.
She didn’t expect her call to be blocked.
Sue’s heart had never beaten so fast before. She held her breath and hurriedly called Clement.
“Can you contact your brother?”
Clement immediately tried calling Harley as well, but similarly, he was unable to get through.
“Sue, what happened to Harley? He blocked me.”
It finally dawned upon Sue that Harley was serious about getting a divorce.
She asked Tina to call Harley as well.
She thought that Harley would never block his own daughter’s number. To her surprise, the same thing happened to Tina as well.
“Mom, Dad blocked my number,” Tina cried tearfully. “What’s going on with Dad? He didn’t come to my campus, and he even blocked me on everything.”
Sue felt an anxiety she had never felt before.
She immediately tried contacting Harley’s friends.
Yet, even after going through all of his best buddies, she didn’t get a single piece of useful information.
“Sue, we don’t know where Harley went.”
“What? Harley wants a divorce?”
Everyone was shocked to hear that Harley wanted to divorce her.
Hearing their genuine surprise, Sue was certain that they weren’t lying to her, and that they really had no idea where Harley went.
The next morning, Sue threw all caution to the wind and headed straight to Harley’s office to try to dig for information from his superior.
“You’re Harley’s wife?”
Harley’s superior frowned at the sight of Sue.
Sue had never appeared before Harley’s colleagues, even though she had been married to Harley for over two decades.
She had thought that a marriage was just between two people. She didn’t want to be seen or exposed to strangers. She didn’t even allow Harley to post her photos on social media.
Because of that, no one in his office recognized her.
Sue showed them their only photograph together, which was their wedding photo.
“Yes, Harley is my husband. My daughter and I have been calling him, but he hasn’t been answering our calls. I’m worried about him.”
Harley’s superior told her, “He signed a contract with the company and has been posted overseas.”
Sue stood stunned for a long while.
She vaguely remembered Harley telling her about this. He had rejected it at that time, so she completely forgot about it.
Sue left the office in a daze.
The work was confidential. As such, she didn’t have the right to know where Harley had gone. No matter how much she begged Harley’s superior, he refused to tell her.
Sue started losing hope.
Tina initially refused to accept what was going on.
“Mom, how could Dad possibly want to divorce you?”
Yet, when she saw the divorce papers that Sue showed her, indicating that Harley chose to forsake custody of his daughter, she had no choice but to accept reality.
“Dad doesn’t even want me as his daughter anymore.”
Tina was in disbelief.
Yet, with time, she slowly came to accept the fact.
The next time they heard from Harley was three months later.
Sue received a call from a divorce lawyer.
“Hello, Ms. Jenkins. I’m your husband’s divorce lawyer.”
