You Can Keep Him, Tramp Chapter 05

entire roun went dead silent.

Dad slammed his palm against the table.

“Emily, what the hell are you talking about? You really had to pull this in front of everyone? Do you have any idea. how embarrassing this is?”

Chloe recovered first. She quickly set down her wineglass and turned to Dad with a worried look.

“Mr. Rogers, please calm down. Don’t let this upset you. Emily just had her tubes tied. She’s probably emotional and not thinking clearly.”

Kyle’s jaw tightened.

“Emily, I know you’re upset, but this is too far. The kids are standing right here. They didn’t do anything. How can you say something like that about them?”

Murmurs immediately spread through the room.

Several guests frowned at me, their expressions full of disapproval, as if I were the one who had suddenly lost my mind.

I ignored them and mirrored my phone to the large screen at the front of the ballroom.

The screenshots I had saved from the anonymous post filled the display.

I looked straight at Chloe.

“Go ahead. Tell everyone the Bentley and the mansion in that post aren’t the exact ones you have.”

Then I pulled up the photo of the supplement box.

“And this. Isn’t this the same stuff Kyle handed me last night?”

I turned to Kyle.

“And before you came to me last night, weren’t you with her?”

The room instantly erupted.

People leaned toward the screen, whispering as they read through the posts. One by one, their expressions changed.

Chloe’s face drained of color. For a second, she looked completely rattled.

Then she snapped, “You’re making this up! I didn’t post any of that! Someone’s pretending to be me just to turn us against each other.”

Kyle’s face hardened as he turned to Dad.

“Dad, put a stop to this. Emily’s accusing me of cheating in front of half the city. And now she’s dragging the kids into it, too. None of that is real. Someone’s trying to set us up. You have to believe me.”

Between Chloe’s denials and Kyle’s anger, Dad quickly lost patience. More than anything, he wanted to keep the Rogers family from becoming the subject of a scandal in front of so many relatives and business partners.

“Enough, Emily!”

Dad’s face darkened.

don’t care what you think you found! Those kids are Rogers blood, and they’re getting the shares. So stop this right now before you embarrass yourself and the entire family.”

I had expected as much, so I only gave a cold smile.

“Fine. Then let’s quit arguing and settle it. We’ll do DNA tests right here. Until the results come back, nobody leaves. Everyone can see for themselves who’s telling the truth.”

The ballroom went silent again. Every eye turned to Chloe and Kyle.

Chloe’s face went pale.

“Emily, this is insane! They’re kids. Do you really want to put them through a DNA test in front of everyone?”

Her voice sharpened.

“You’re so desperate to prove yourself right that you don’t even care what this could do to them. What kind of mother does that?”

I gave a cold laugh.

“Now you care about hurting them? Where was that concern when you and Kyle were sneaking around behind my back? If you’ve got nothing to hide, and those kids really are Rogers blood, then what are you so afraid of? The more you fight the test, the more guilty you look.”

Both of them tensed. Chloe opened her mouth to argue, but Kyle cut her off.

“Emily, enough! I’m not letting you drag the kids through some public DNA test just to prove whatever point you think you’re making.”

He took the twins by the hands and turned toward the door.

They had barely made it a few steps when several relatives got up and blocked their way.

“Hold on. You can leave after this is cleared up. If you’ve got nothing to hide, take the test and settle it.”
