The Neighbor’s Cat Destroyed His Lies Chapter 10
It did not take long after Ivy’s visit for Julian to show up again.
His condition did not look much better than Ivy’s. In just half a month, he seemed to have lost over ten pounds. His sunken eyes gave him the appearance of someone on his deathbed.
Only his eyes still held a glimmer of light, fixed on me with a dazed look.
“Clara, did Ivy come looking for you? She didn’t go crazy and cause trouble for you, did she?”
I shook my head.
“She doesn’t have the power to trouble me. Is there anything else you need?”
I raised my hand to close the door, lacking even the patience for another word with him.”
Julian showed no anger. His face was frozen in a stiff smile. “Yes, I have so much I want to tell you. I’ve been holding it in for half a month!
“Since Ivy came, you must have seen her situation. Actually, she wasn’t wrong. I bribed the doctor to terminate her pregnancy.
“To me, she was nothing but a thrill–seeking toy. And she dared to dream of bearing my child and marrying me? Dream on! No one can ever replace you in my heart!”
His words sounded like a confession, yet they stirred nothing in me. I only felt disgust and revulsion. A chill ran through my body.
“What are you saying?
“Did you kill your own flesh and blood with your own hands?”
Julian shook his head violently. “That wasn’t my flesh and blood. I refuse to acknowledge it! Only you are worthy of bearing my child. If you can’t give me one, then I’ll live my life without descendants!
“Clara, I did all this just to prove to you that you’ve always been the one I love most. Ivy means absolutely nothing
to me!
“Half a month ago, you didn’t believe me and refused to forgive me. Now you must believe me, right?”
His voice cracked with emotion as he uttered the last sentence, his eyes filled with desperate hope as he looked at
me.
Terrified by his frenzied state, I stumbled backward several steps.
I never imagined my earlier words would lead him to misunderstand. That he thought my insistence on divorce stemmed from jealousy over Ivy, that it was because he loved her more than me.
Now, to prove himself and win my forgiveness, he was willing to abandon his company and bribe doctors to harm Ivy!
Was this Julian’s true nature?
Was the thrill he sought driven by sickness and madness?
The thought of sharing a bed with him for seven years sent chill through me “Enough, Julian. I don’t care whether or not you love me, nor do I care about what’s going on with you and Ivy.
“Let me say this one last time: there is absolutely no chance of us getting back together!
“I’ve already called the police. You’d better confess to them!”
Julian froze. The smile on his face stiffened, and the hope and longing in his eyes turned into deep despair.
The next moment, sensing his emotional collapse and his attempt to burst in, I quickly beat him to it and slammed the door shut.
His frenzied shouts echoed from outside.
“I’ve lost everything! Wasn’t all I did for you enough?
“Clara, how can you be so cruel? Seven years of love, and you could just throw it away like that?”
I could.
Besides, he had betrayed me first.
Back then, in the face of life and death, we never released each other’s hands.
The deeper the love, the harder it was to turn back once it was tainted. Spilled water could never be retrieved.
When the police arrived and restrained him, I finally cracked the door open for one final look.
Julian was too exhausted to shout anymore.
Yet he still stared at me intently. There was a complicated look in his eyes.
It was so complicated that I could not decipher its emotions
But just like that Ragdoll cat, no matter what, there was no place left for him in my world.
