They Tried to Break My Sister. Then I Woke Up Chapter 04

They Tried to Break My Sister. Then I Woke Up Chapter 04

The next morning, sacred herbs and fragrant wood burned inside Founders‘ Hall, symbols of

generations of Alpha bloodlines. The atmosphere was grim and oppressive.

Beneath the massive dark wooden pillars, the elders from every branch of the Blackwell family had

already taken their seats.

Dozens of Blackwell men and Pack Warriors guarded the entrance, completely blocking the way

out.

Gavin stood in the center of the hall, putting on the pained expression of a devoted mate who’d

been betrayed.

“Elders, I’m not doing this because I’m heartless.”

He wiped at the corner of his eye, sounding deeply wronged.

“Audrey really has lost control.”

“As if messing around with men outside the Pack after we became mates wasn’t bad enough,

yesterday she even came at my mother with an axe!”

He drew a deep breath as though struggling to hold back his pain.

“I had a perfectly good family until that crazy woman destroyed it.”

Diane immediately joined in, sitting on a padded chair nearby and wailing as she slapped her thigh.

Theresa Blackwell reached into her bag and pulled out a handful of memory moonstones, passing

one to each Pack Elder.

Once activated, one supposed private chat log after another appeared on the surfaces of the

stones.

“Take a good look!”

Theresa pointed at the messages and deliberately raised her voice.

“Look at how explicit she was with some man outside the Pack!”

“Now we can’t even be sure whose pup she’s carrying. Are we supposed to let the Blackwell family

raise another man’s child and let a pup of unknown blood into the Alpha line?”

The memory moonstones passed from hand to hand, and the mood inside Founders‘ Hall quickly

turned against me.

“Moon Goddess… Gavin treated her so well, and she still betrayed her own mate!”

“If we don’t even know whether the pup in her belly carries Blackwell blood, how could that child

ever be recognized as part of the Alpha family line?

First Elder Walter Blackwell, seated at the head of the hall, lightly tapped the side of his cup.

The murmuring gradually died away.

Walter pushed the already–prepared Mate Severance and Property Settlement to the edge of the

table.

“Audrey, this isn’t because Blackridge refuses to accept you.”

“You’ve left yourself nowhere to go.”

He looked at me coldly.

“Have some dignity. Sign the agreement, formally sever your mate relationship with Gavin, and give

up any claim to Blackwell property.”

“If you do that, we can at least preserve what little reputation you have left in the Pack.”

I sat on the cold wooden bench in the center of Founders‘ Hall, watching them stage their pathetic

trial without moving.

When Theresa saw that I still refused to sign, she immediately signaled to the women on either

side of me.

“Give me a hand! Look at her. She’s obviously about to lose control again.”

“Get her fingerprint on the agreement first, then send her away for treatment. Otherwise, once she goes completely feral, she’ll hurt someone else in the Pack.”

Several powerfully built Blackwell women rushed forward and pinned my shoulders down from

both sides.

Theresa roughly grabbed my right thumb and forced it toward the blood–red fingerprint pad the

Pack Council used to authenticate agreements.

“You betrayed your mate and messed around with men outside the Pack Of course the marital home stays with the Blackwell family as compensation.”

In the middle of the struggle, Gavin leaned close to my ear and lowered his voice until only I could

hear him.

“Audrey, you’re on Blackridge territory In Founders Hall if I say you’re a violent lunatic who’s lost

control, then that’s what you are.”

“If I say you betrayed your mate and the pup in your belly has questionable blood, that’s the story

the entire Pack will believe.”

His voice was full of undisguised malice.

“Everyone here is a Blackwell. You don’t even have one Pack member willing to speak for you.”

“So what exactly do you have to fight me with?”

I slowly lowered my head.

My shoulders trembled faintly.

Then I suddenly burst out laughing.

“Hahahaha…”

The laughter sounded especially jarring in the grim silence of Founders‘ Hall.

The people restraining me all froze.

The hall gradually fell silent.

Everyone stared at me as though they were watching a mad wolf finally lose control completely.

I slowly pushed Theresa’s hand aside.

Then I reached into my coat pocket and pulled out an old keypad phone.

It was something I’d left behind before entering Deep Sleep.

I pressed the only number programmed into speed dial.

When the call connected, I said just one thing.

“Come in.”

The words had barely left my mouth.

“BOOM!”

A deafening crash exploded outside Founders‘ Hall

The next second, two reinforced off–road SUVS smashed straight through the Blackwell family’s

massive iron gate.

The gate crashed to the ground, sending dust and stone fragments flying across the entrance.

More than a dozen large, hard–faced men climbed out of the vehicles.

None of them wore Pack insignia. Their exposed arms were covered in tattoos, and the unfamiliar scent of rogues flooded the hall.

They were the Eastside Rogues I’d led before I entered Deep Sleep.

The man at the front had an old scar running almost the full length of his face.

Cole “Scar” Mercer strode into the hall.

One of the Blackwell men stepped forward to block him, but Scar didn’t even slow down.

One kick sent the man flying backward and through one of the side windows of Founders‘ Hall.

The hall fell completely silent.

Scar walked straight up to me and dropped to one knee in the shattered glass.

“Boss.”

He looked up and grinned.

“It’s been more than a year.”

“You finally remembered to call us.”
