I Stumble Upon My Girlfriend’s Wedding Chapter 05
Third–Person POV
“What did you say?” Madeleine gasped.
Kathy, pale as a sheet, handed over her phone. Someone had already edited the live stream footage into short clips.
Madeleine’s heart dropped. She wanted nothing more than to drop everything and rush out right then and there.
“You’re not going anywhere,” Richard said, his eyes darkening. “Have you forgotten what you promised me yesterday?”
Sid glanced at the screen. “The video could be fake. It’s ridiculously easy to generate a fake video these days. Besides, his mom is still around. Jeremy would never just abandon her.”
Hearing that, Madeleine’s heart gradually calmed down.
“That’s true,” she thought. “Jeremy has always been rather resilient. There’s no way he’d actually just jump like that. It has to be fake.”
It wasn’t as if Jeremy had never acted up before. During the years they were in a long–distance relationship, if he somehow couldn’t reach her on the phone, he’d send dozens of messages threatening to break up.
In the end, all it took was a few sweet words from her, and he’d be fine again. This time was probably no different. He was just throwing a bigger tantrum than usual.
Right then, Richard’s grandmother took her hand and rambled on affectionately. “Rick has a bit of a temper, but he’s a good person at heart. You two should be happy together. Don’t argue so much.”
Madeleine nodded politely, but her mind was already somewhere far away.
She sent Jeremy a text.
“Stop throwing a tantrum. Rick has already agreed to let you stay by my side. What else could you possibly be unhappy about? If you’re upset about something, you can just tell me. There’s no need to make such a scene.”
She genuinely didn’t think there was anything wrong with the texts she sent. In their social circle, having multiple lovers was completely normal.
Even her own mother, Tamara Petty, had multiple men flitting around her. She really couldn’t understand why Jeremy was so
against the idea.
ul thought, she came to the conclusion that it was probably because she hadn’t offered believing herself to be considerate, she sent him another message.
th the amount I suggested? How about I give you 200,000 dollars every month, plus a luxury ugh?”
age was met with complete silence, just like a pebble thrown into the abyss. She couldn’t quite What she was feeling. All she knew was that it felt little hard to breathe.
then tried calling him, only for a mechanical, female voice to answer her. “The number you have dialed is currently unavailable.”
Richard noticed that she was distracted. “There are so many guests here today,” he said, “You’re not going to embarrass me, are you, Maddy?”
In other words, if she didn’t cooperate, he would take it out on Jeremy.
With no other choice, Madeleine forced herself to put on a smile and continue to socialize alongside him. But the more she mingled with the fake, hypocritical people, the more the inexplicable sense of irritability inside her
grew.
Right then, the phone in her pocket vibrated. Thinking it was a reply from Jeremy, she hurriedly pulled it out, only to see that it was a text from the company’s IT department.
“Ms. Petty, we’ve confirmed that Mr. Garrett really did jump into the river. A rescue team has already begun its operations. Also, Mr. Garrett’s mother passed away yesterday.”
