I Take the Fall, but They Pay the Price Chapter 06
The moment Liani heard his game, he instantly lost his composure. “T-That’s nonsense!”
I ignored him and handed the USB drive to Sam’s secretary, Peter, who plugged it into a computer.
The next second, every action performed on Liam’s computer appeared on the screen.
At various times, he had repeatedly transferred money from the company’s accounts into a personal bank account.
He had even quietly altered the financial records afterward to conceal the missing funds.
For a moment, everyone fell silent.
Even Megan, who had been determined to protect Liam, was at a loss for words.
Sam snorted coldly. “Well? Do you have anything to say, Liam?”
The evidence was undeniable, but Liam still refused to give up. He pleaded pitifully, “Mr. Davis, you have to believe me! I’ve always been completely loyal to the company. Flynn must have deliberately set me up!
“He’s hated me for a long time. He must have known you were coming here today and fabricated this video just to frame me!”
Megan could not help but step forward as well. “That’s right, Mr. Davis. The company has always respected its employees’ privacy. I’ve never heard of any kind of monitoring system. And now, on the exact day you’re here, Flynn just so happens to produce this video?
“Besides, Liam has always been hardworking and dedicated. He’s an exceptional talent! There’s something fishy about this!”
After ten years together, I never knew Megan was capable of telling lies with such a straight face.
Before I could say anything, Alan could not take it anymore. “Did you just call a loser like that an ‘exceptional talent’? Ms. Grant, I think your judgment is seriously failing you. Maybe it’s time you considered retirement.”
Megan was in the prime of her career. Her expression immediately darkened at the insult.
However, with the client’s status and the chairman standing right there, all she could do was force a smile. “Liam has worked under me for more than half a year. I know his abilities and character better than anyone. Mr. Hayes, perhaps you heard some nonsense from outside and simply misunderstood him?”
As she spoke, she deliberately glanced in my direction.
Everyone in the company knew that I had close relationships with many of the company’s major clients…
In her opinion, the only one who could have “tarnished” the reputation of her “star employee”, Liam, had to be me.
However, Alan did not even look at her. He turned to Sam instead. “Mr. Davis, since Flynn is no longer with your company, I’m afraid we’ll have to cancel our partnership.”
Before Sam could respond, Megan immediately panicked. “Mr. Hayes, what do you mean by that? Even if Flynn is gone, Liam is still here. He can…”
What she didn’t know was that the supplier Liam had previously offended was Alan’s younger brother.
Alan had already heard plenty about Liam’s character and skill.
Sure enough, he let out a cold laugh. “Liam? Who the hell is that? Do you really think he’s qualified to negotiate a deal with me?
“Ms. Grant, it seems you haven’t just lost your judgment. You’ve completely stopped showing us the slightest bit of respect!”
The accusation of arrogance landed squarely on Megan’s shoulders. Her face immediately paled.
A flash of anger crossed Liam’s eyes.
His eyes darted around, and he suddenly blurted out, “Mr. Hayes, you’re in on this with Flynn, aren’t you?”
When Sam’s gaze shifted toward jam, he grew even more confident. “Mr. Davis, Fly must still be bitter about being fired yesterday. He fabricated this footage and secretly bribed Mr. Hayes. They’re putting on a show in front of you just to destroy my reputation and Ms. Grant’s!
“Otherwise, how else could Flynn have coincidentally shown up here today with that surveillance footage?”
As I watched Liam deliver his ridiculous story, I couldn’t help but think that it was a shame he hadn’t gone into screenwriting.
