My Mother and Husband Both Chose Her Over Me Chapter 09

In Dr. Bennett’s office, several thick document envelopes landed on the desk.

“Read them,” she said.

Adrian opened the first one hesitantly. The moment he saw the initial report, his pupils contracted.

He began turning pages faster, his fingertips catching against the paper. “This can’t be right.”

When he reached the end, he tore open the next envelope. His eyes slowly turned red as he read.

“No. It wasn’t supposed to be like this.”

“What does it say?” Talia leaned over, but Adrian did not answer.

He opened the third envelope. Unable to wait, Talia picked up the first file and began reading it herself.

She froze almost immediately.

My mother read over her shoulder. After one page, her eyes widened.

“This is impossible.”

Adrian looked sharply at Dr. Bennett. “She never told me it was this bad.

“Do you understand that some trauma cannot simply be recalled on command?” Dr. Bennett asked, her

voice cold.

“Forcing someone to relive it can traumatize her all over again.”

“It took me three years to help her disclose these memories while she was in a carefully controlled, deeply relaxed state.”

Adrian stood motionless.

My mother covered her mouth and continued reading page by page. Her earlier impatience disappeared, and her hands shook around the file.

“How could this have happened? How could my daughter have lived through this?”

She looked toward Serena. “You did all of this?”

Talia stood at the edge of the room without saying a word.
