He Married His Enemy’s Daughter, So I Left the Mafia Family Chapter 05

All the color drained from Adrian’s face.

He snatched up the medical report and stared at the name on it for a long time.

Natalie was pregnant with his child.

For the first time, real panic hit him, and even breathing became difficult.

He suddenly remembered the way Natalie had instinctively protected her lower abdomen when she pulled the trigger for the fifth time the day before.

Then he remembered what had happened today.

When the attack began, he hadn’t even looked back at Natalie.

He had locked a woman who was eight weeks pregnant inside the house and left her alone to face

several surviving members of the Rossi Family.

Adrian slowly lowered his head.

The ring was still lying beside the report.

He’d had it custom-made years ago after one of their worst fights, just to keep Natalie quiet.

The inside of the band was engraved with the letters A and N.

Natalie had always treated it like an engagement ring.

And he’d never corrected her.

Because back then, all he had to say was, “Once Selena settles down, we’ll get married,” and Natalie

would stay.

No matter how ugly things became between them over the years, Natalie had never taken it off.

Now she had left it behind.

“Natalie…”

He rushed from room to room looking for her.

“Natalie!”

No answer.

“Find her. Now!”

Adrian grabbed the captain of Moretti Security by the collar.

“Check every hospital and every emergency department in the area. All of them. Check the airports too, Midway included, and every station. She’s hurt. She can’t have vanished without a trace!”

Everyone immediately scattered.

But a moment later, one of the older capos frowned and spoke up.

“Adrian, she’s just a Carter. You’re sending this many men after someone who isn’t even Family?

Isn’t that a bit much?”

Adrian whipped around.

The moment the capo saw his expression, he shut his mouth.

But for the first time, Adrian realized just how often he’d heard words like that over the past five

years.

And he’d never once challenged them.

Because somewhere deep down, he’d always assumed Natalie would never really leave.

She didn’t belong to any powerful Italian Family, she had no power base of her own, and her father

was dead.

Other than him and the Morettis, where could she possibly go?

“Adrian…”

Selena had entered the room at some point.

When she saw the blood and bodies everywhere, her face went pale.

“So many people died here. If the feds get involved, could they trace any of this back to us?”

In the past, all she’d had to do was say she was scared, and Adrian would immediately comfort her.

But this time, he only turned toward her slowly.

“Natalie could be badly hurt. She held those men off on her own. She saved you. She saved me. And

all you care about is whether this comes back on you?”

Selena froze.

“That’s not what I meant. I just…”

“Enough.”

For the first time, Adrian shook off her hand..

Three hours later, the security captain returned.

“Nothing. No sign of her at any hospital, private clinic, airport or station. She must’ve had her route out planned in advance.”

Adrian’s expression grew darker.

“Keep looking.”

Then something hit him.

“Her father.”

His head snapped up.

“Mount Carmel. If she’s really leaving, she’ll take Daniel with her.”

He rushed out of the house.

It had already started raining.

Adrian didn’t stop for a coat, and he didn’t take anyone with him.

He drove straight to Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Before the car had even fully stopped, he was already out and running.
