Once the conversion began, they put me in the highest room of the castle, at least for now.
Lord Corvus stayed by my bed and refused to attend even the Main System’s meetings.
I was drifting off when the mark on my wrist suddenly burned.
A white light shot down from above and ripped me straight out of Lord Corvus’s arms.
When I opened my eyes, I was strapped down in the real-world Player Management Center.
Talismans covered the walls to block the dungeon’s senses. A silver needle pressed into the
inheritance mark on my chest.
They had planned this all along.
The tears and regret from earlier had only been a delay tactic.
Dad stood by the memory rollback pod, barely able to contain his excitement.
Mom touched my face with red, teary eyes.
“Nora, I knows I messed up.”
“Once you forget everything from that dungeon, our family can start over.’
I struggled desperately, but the metal restraints only tightened.
I stared into her reddened eyes. For the first time, I couldn’t tell if she truly regretted it, or if she just couldn’t accept that her biological daughter no longer needed her.
Either way, her solution was still to tie me down.
Dad placed the voluntary stay statement beside the rollback pod.
“Once she wakes up, she’ll sign it.”
“Kids without memories naturally listen to their parents.”
I looked at Mom, and a cold dread spread through me.
She kept claiming she was sorry, but she still wouldn’t ask what I wanted.
Mom avoided my eyes and whispered, “Mom can’t just stand by and watch you become a monster.”
“You’ll understand someday. I’m only doing this for your own good.”
Lily walked in from outside. God only knew how she had sweet-talked her parents.
The administrator in charge of the rollback followed her.
Without her gear and points, the softness on her face had vanished completely.
“Dad, a normal rollback can only erase three years of memories.”
“When Nora wakes up, she’ll still remember she has an SS-rank talent. She’ll keep competing with
me.”
Dad frowned.
“Then what do you suggest?”
Lily set the rollback level to maximum. Red letters appeared on the screen: “Full Format.”
“Make her forget everything.”
“Then whatever we tell her, she’ll have no choice but to believe it.”
Mom was startled and tried to stop her.
“No, she’ll become a vegetable!”
Lily grabbed Mom’s arm, and tears poured out again.
“Mom, Nora already hates us.”
“If she keeps her memories, Lord Corvus will kill our whole family.”
Mom struggled for a long time. Finally, her hand slowly fell away.
I watched it happen, and I wasn’t the least bit surprised.
Every time Lily cried, Mom forgot whatever she had said moments before.
Her promise to protect me hadn’t even lasted ten minutes.
The administrator pressed cold metal pads to my temples.
Pain exploded through my skull. The memories of the past three years began to blur.
I forgot the monsters calling me little master. I almost forgot the days of peeling oranges for my
daddy.
Dad stood nearby with the statement, urging with satisfaction, “Turn it up higher.”
I bit through the tip of my tongue and used the last sliver of clarity to activate the inheritance mark
on my chest.
The Player Management Center’s surveillance feed instantly connected to the server-wide
livestream.
Every word of their conversation broadcast to the entire world.
The administrator’s face went pale. He lunged to cut the feed.
The next second, a black fissure split the sky above the real world.
Countless monsters poked their heads through the rift, all staring at the Player Management
Center.
Boss stepped out of the black mist, his crimson eyes locked on me.
“Let go of my daughter.”
