I’m the Alpha Female Now Chapter 06
A few days later, after his external wounds healed, Jacob returned to the patrol team as scheduled to resume his duties.
Yet, during his very first patrol, he immediately sensed that something was deeply wrong.
In the past, with just a single thought, his wolf would instantly respond, flooding him with raw power and battle readiness.
Today, no matter how many times he tried to awaken it, there was only dead silence deep inside his body.
His wolf didn’t react at all, as if it had vanished into thin air.
Panic surged through him instantly. Unable to focus on anything else, Jacob rushed straight to the pack clinic for an emergency checkup.
When the final diagnosis was handed to him, Jacob went completely still, as if struck by lightning.
The healer looked at him and said seriously, “Captain Fulton, your wolf is completely destroyed. You will never be able to shift or fight again.”
Those few short words stabbed right into Jacob’s heart like a serrated blade.
He was the strongest patrol captain in the Silverfang pack. After countless battles, he had always stood at the peak of glory.
Now, he was reduced to a useless invalid, banned from ever setting foot on the battlefield again.
Rage and despair devoured Jacob whole.
At this moment, he was finally slammed back into reality.
It really was Yelena’s potion that caused the problem. She had used an untested potion without care, ruining the entire team before fleeing to escape her crimes.
Only now did he realize that his stubbornness, his blatant disregard for everyone’s safety, and his refusal to listen to my warnings had destroyed the patrol team and permanently ruined himself.
Like a man possessed, Jacob mobilized every contact he had to hunt for Yelena’s whereabouts.
Yet, no matter how hard he searched, Yelena seemed to have evaporated into thin air, leaving not a single trace behind.
Having never tasted failure before, Jacob was completely crushed under the weight of endless regret and total breakdown.
A few veteran guards who had also lost their wolves couldn’t bear to watch him spiral into utter ruin, so they came over of their own accord.
The group sat together, drinking to drown their sorrows. The regret they had buried deep inside could no longer be hidden.
One of them sighed softly, his eyes red with regret. “We were so stupid. We refused to listen to Wendy’s warning and dug our own graves. For five years, every heavily injured guard survived only because Wendy gave everything she had to save us.”
Another guard beside him chimed in, filled with bitter remorse, “Yeah. We were absolute fools back then.”
The group exchanged glances and looked at the devastated Jacob. Clinging to their last shred of hope, they tried to persuade him, “Captain, Wendy is our chief healer. Her healing skills are the absolute best in the entire pack. Maybe she has a way to heal us!”
“As long as you apologize to her from the bottom of your heart and beg for her help, maybe there’s still a chance. Maybe there’s hope for all of us.”
Jacob stayed silent for a long time. The days of exhaustion had drained every bit of light from his eyes.
Seeming to make up his mind, he let out a deep breath, turned around, and marched straight to my cottage.
The moment he pushed the door open, the sight inside froze him right at the threshold.
The house was completely bare. Every single one of my belongings was gone, leaving not a single trace that I had ever lived there.
Jacob’s heart sank into a pit. He grabbed the housekeeper in a frenzy and asked in a trembling voice, “Where is Wendy? Where did she go?”
Trembling, the housekeeper answered honestly, “Ms. Conner left days ago. An escort team from an outside pack came to pick her up.”
“What? She’s gone?” Jacob raised his voice, his face painted with pure disbelief.
