Weight Gain Murder Chapter 08

Weight Gain Murder Chapter 08

The furious neighbors urged me to stop protecting Mom and Jenny.

My mom sat on the floor and begged as she sobbed. “Shannon, it’s all my fault for not thinking things through! Jenny had nothing to do with this. Blame me if you want!”

Jenny leaned against Mom’s shoulder and shook her head in distress.

What a touching display of motherly and daughterly love.

I went into Mom’s room and opened a cabinet. There, I found the safe in the corner and entered Jenny’s birthday.

It opened with a click.

At the back, I found my adoption papers. I carried them into the living room and threw them onto the coffee table.

“Linda, I’m not even your biological daughter, am I?”

Linda’s expression froze. She had believed I might spare her because I had once loved her as my mother. But now, that was no longer possible.

The neighbors looked at the papers, and the truth finally sank in.

“So, Shannon isn’t your biological daughter? No wonder you treated her this way!”

“Linda, where’s your conscience?!”

“You already had a child of your own, but you still adopted Shannon. Did you plan from the beginning to use her body to make medicine for Jenny?!”

All the color drained from Linda’s face. The neighbors were right. She had adopted me for a reason.

After her husband died from obesity, tests showed that Jenny carried the same gene.

Linda did not want her daughter to die from the condition, so she searched everywhere for a cure. Eventually, she learned that a family from a small town in the countryside outside a small city in the Southwest carried a gene that made losing weight unusually easy.

By extracting enzymes from that family’s fat cells and turning them into medicine, she could stabilize Jenny’s weight. However, the process required an enormous number of fat cells. The donor had to receive large doses of nutrient injections, which caused fat cells to multiply rapidly. The process would also severely weaken the donor’s immune system and could even kill them.

But Linda went ahead with it anyway.

After I explained everything, some neighbors were shocked, some were furious, and others could only sigh.

“Shannon, were you originally from that town?”

I nodded. “That’s right!”

“Wait, so you never had the obesity gene? It’s the injections that made you gain all that weight?”

I nodded. “Yes!”

Linda finally lost control and mentally collapsed as she began laughing wildly. “Shannon, I fed and clothed you all these years! So what if I took a few cells from you? You’re still alive, aren’t you? Even if the police come, they

can’t do anything to me!”

1 opened the adoption papers and studied them.

Linda had adopted me eighteen years ago, when I was three.

I remembered having a mother and father. I remembered a scorching hot summer day when a strange/woman came to our home with a child about my age. She ate with my family and asked me many questions. Later, my parents went into town and never came back.

The older members of my family said they had died in a car accident. I was sent to a local orphanage and was adopted soon afterward.

I walked up to Linda and stared right into her eyes. “Tell me how my parents really died!”

Her expression froze as her eyes narrowed, and she looked away. “I… I don’t know!”
