No Longer Mrs. Vincenzo Chapter 07
Lorenzo’s POV
In an instant, countless private investigators from the Vincenzo family were deployed.
But they scoured every port and airport in New York. No trace of Ayana.
Detective Capo reported back cautiously.
“Mr. Vincenzo, we can’t find any information on Mrs. Vincenzo.”
Before he could finish, Lorenzo hurled a bottle at his feet.
“Useless. All of you are useless.”
“What’s the point of the Vincenzo family keeping you?”
The days Ayana had been gone, Lorenzo went nowhere. He stayed home, drowning in alcohol, sitting from dusk till dawn.
But that locked door never opened again.
He still foolishly believed that once Ayana cooled down, she would come back on her own.
What he didn’t know was that Greer had already bought Ayana a new identity on the black market.
Of course he couldn’t find Ayana.
Detective Capo stood frozen, not daring to move, letting the glass shards cut into his legs. Blood dripped down.
“Maybe Mrs. Vincenzo never left New York at all.”
Lorenzo stared at him with dark, hollow eyes. He said nothing.
“Then find her. Search heaven and earth if you have to. Bring her back.”
Capo nodded frantically and backed out.
Maybe she really hadn’t left yet. A flicker of hope sparked in Lorenzo’s chest. He dragged his drunk, stumbling body to Greer’s place.
“Greer, tell me where Ayana is hiding.”
He waited outside her door for five hours before she showed up.
Greer looked at the haggard man in front of her. She could hardly believe this was the same arrogant Dr. Lorenzo from before.
“Lorenzo, you’re divorced. What Ayana does has nothing to do with you anymore.”
She let out a cold laugh.
“Let me tell you something. Ayana is never coming back to you. Get that through your head.”
Lorenzo’s face went white. The ache in his chest grew so sharp he almost blacked out.
“Ayana and I just had a little misunderstanding.”
“Once I explain everything to her, she’ll forgive me. I know she will.”
Greer looked at him calmly, each word cutting like a blade.
“It’s too late for regrets. If you knew what Ayana went through, even you wouldn’t forgive yourself.”
Suddenly, Lorenzo’s phone rang. He answered in a daze.
“Mr. Vincenzo, we found Mrs. Vincenzo’s medical records.”
A moment later, a text came through from the detective. Ayana’s prenatal report. And the medical record from the day she almost lost the baby to that medication.
[Mr. Vincenzo, the doctor said if they had been even one minute later, they wouldn’t have just lost Mrs. Vincenzo’s baby. They would have lost her too.]
On the prenatal report, Ayana had written a line in her own handwriting.
[My dear child, Mommy is taking you away. We’ll have freedom. We’ll have love.]
Lorenzo stood frozen. That day, Elara had nearly killed his and Ayana’s child.
And he had defended Elara. He had crushed Ayana’s heart completely.
His grip on the phone turned white-knuckled. His voice cracked.
“Ayana almost died. And I’m going to make Elara pay for every bit of it.”
Greer didn’t answer. She turned her back on him and walked away.
