The Last Time I Loved You Chapter 04

Chapter 4 The Winning Move

Luna’s body tensed instantly, and she quickly pulled her hand free from Lucien’s grasp.

“Julian, you’re awake! I… I was just about to ask the doctor about your condition when ran into Lucien. His girlfriend is pregnant, and he’s not familiar with this hospital. I was only helping him out by bringing him here.”

Luna hurriedly explained herself, then took two quick steps to my side.

My gaze fell on Luna’s stomach, and my chest tightened so suddenly that I struggled to breathe.

I closed my eyes for a moment before finally speaking. “Congratulations, Mr. White. How far along is your girlfriend? Have the checkups been going well?”

A look of pure happiness crossed Lucien’s face as he glanced at Luna. His eyes sparkled with excitement as he bragged, “Just over a month. The baby’s mother has been nervous about everything, and I couldn’t bear to let her come alone, so I came with

her.

“The doctor said the baby is very healthy. I’ll be a father soon. I was so happy when I found out she was pregnant. I wish I could stay by her side every day. I personally keep an eye on everything she eats. Even the chocolate she likes has to be imported.”

The moment he finished speaking, Luna’s expression changed dramatically.

“My husband likes chocolate with liquor filling,” she cut in sharply. “Adjust the wedding dessert menu accordingly.”

Then she added coldly, “You’re just a staff member. Don’t expect my husband to cater to your girlfriend’s tastes.”

After that, she wrapped her arms around me in a placating embrace and gently coaxed me. “Why are you so pale? The doctor said you need plenty of rest.”

Hearing the disdain in Luna’s voice, Lucien bit his lip. His eyes reddened with tears. “Y-You’re right. I got carried away. I’m only a staff member. How could I possibly deserve Mr. Prescott’s chocolate?”

With that, he wiped at his eyes and turned to leave.

A flicker crossed Luna’s face. She almost rushed after him, but then she noticed her hand was still resting on my shoulder. In the end, she gave up.

Back in the hospital room, Luna remained distracted and absent-minded.

“The bridal consultant said you fainted after seeing the wedding dress. I’ve already arranged for it to be cleaned. The wedding is only ten days away. If we order a new one now, I’m afraid there won’t be enough time.”

“Luna, I have a cleanliness issue,” I said. “I can’t accept you wearing a wedding dress that has already been used. It doesn’t matter how thoroughly it’s cleaned.”

The hand she had been using to tuck in my blanket froze.

After a moment of silence, she spoke again. “All right. I’ll contact the bridal designer and see what can be done. We’ll keep working on it until you’re satisfied.

“Julian, we’re finally going to get married. Do you know how many years I’ve waited for this wedding?”

I wanted to know the answer too. She had been reborn ninety-nine times, yet every single time she had chosen to betray me before the wedding.

The thought was almost laughably ironic.

I was about to demand an explanation, but Luna’s phone rang. She hesitated and was about to decline the call.

“You should answer it,” I said calmly.

Unly then did Luna pick up.

I did not know what was said on the other end, but her eyes widened slightly. Her eyelashes trembled before she ended the call.

“Julian, there’s a problem with one of the wedding arrangements. I need to go take care of it right away.”

Expressionless, I nodded.

But the moment Luna stepped out of the room, I once again heard her conversation with the system. “Your fiance’s life is hanging by a thread right now. You’re still going to see that man?”

Luna hesitated for only three seconds. “Don’t worry. I know what I’m doing. After the wedding, both my body and my heart will belong only to Julian.”

I laughed. The sound was bitter, and tears threatened to follow.

My phone vibrated. A message from Lucien appeared on the screen. “Julian, you lost again.”
