Not All That’s Broken Can Be Fixed Chapter 11
It was then that Raven suddenly retched. I stared at her in a daze, then immediately jumped to my feet in excitement. “Are you pregnant, Raven?”
Raven shook her head and replied, “I’m not sure since my period has always been irregular.”
I immediately picked Raven up in my arms and said, “We’re going to the hospital.”
“Congratulations, Mr. and Mrs. Fuller. Your family is about to welcome a new addition.”
I was so overjoyed that I swept Raven up and spun her around before catching myself and gently setting
her back down.
Raven looked at me affectionately and kissed my hand, saying, “I’m so happy, Christian.”
Just then, Abigail appeared behind us out of nowhere, looking at me completely despondent. “Christian…”
It was then that a nurse rushed over and grabbed her arm, asking, “What are you doing here, Ms. Southall? You need to sign the paperwork since the patient requires surgery!”
Abigail was then dragged away by the nurse.
It was much later when I found out that Abigail had given birth to stillborn twins. Mr. and Mrs. Southall took only a single glance before leaving, dragging Abigail along with them. “We’ve found a partner for you from a well-off family, so you should go meet him right now.”
Ethan and Owen desperately held onto Abigail. “You can’t leave us behind, Abigail!”
Mr. and Mrs. Southall snapped, turning to glare at the bodyguards behind them. “Go throw these two disgusting parasites into the slums! They’re truly the harbingers of misfortune! Abigail has been completely ruined since you two showed up in her life, nearly bringing Southall Group to bankruptcy!”
It was more than half a year later when Raven gave birth to a baby girl. The Sherman family was so ecstatic that they didn’t even sleep a wink all night. They put out an official announcement the very next day to declare to the entire world that the Sherman family had been blessed with a granddaughter.
In the meantime, my in-laws protected the baby like she was their entire world; I only got to hold her for a brief moment before the two of them tried to take her back.
It was my daughter’s one-month party, and my in-laws carried the baby girl around, proudly showing her off to all the guests.
I watched my in-laws and my daughter happily interacting with a smile on my face. I suddenly felt someone staring at me intensely from behind. I promptly turned around, only to notice Abigail staring at
She was no longer the proud and dazzling woman she once was. She looked noticeably worn out. She was standing next to a smug, arrogant-looking man, whom I recognized as Mitchell Young, a philandering scion who was 20 years her senior.
Southall Group had to rely on a marriage alliance to survive due to Abigail’s mismanagement. Hence, Mr. and Mrs. Southall forced her to marry Mitchell, who was on his third marriage and already had two
children.
Upon seeing me, Mitchell approached with a pleasant smile rather than hostility. “You must be Abigail’s ex-husband. You’re a good-looking guy, but you’re too soft-hearted. Those two are just ordinary young men-I had them thrown into the red-light district, and that straightened them out real quick.”
Abigail’s face fell, her lips moving as she quietly muttered my name.
I turned around, took our daughter from Raven’s arms, and gently soothed her. I then smiled at Mitchell and said, “You should help yourselves to the food and drinks. I’ll be taking my daughter for her feeding.”
I wrapped my arm around Raven’s waist and left with our daughter after saying that.
I didn’t hear anything about Abigail for a very long time after that, with the sole exception occurring when a TV news broadcast reported that she had been hospitalized following a domestic dispute. I had absolutely no interest in it, so I just changed the channel.
I returned to the bedroom and noticed Raven looking down at our daughter in her cradle with such tenderness that it warmed my heart. I walked over to embrace Raven and gently caressed our daughter’s cheek, feeling that all the turbulence of my early life had finally given way to happiness.
