The Floating Comments Showed Me His Real Feelings Chapter 01

Callum Whitaker had a three-month rule. Every girl on campus knew it.

But somehow, I’d lasted nine.

People were calling me the exception.

Then a post blew up on the campus gossip board. Sienna Wexler, his so-called first love, was back. And apparently, I was about to get dumped.

I thought it was hilarious. I almost shoved my phone in Callum’s face.

But he’d already rolled over, eyes shut, hugging the far edge of the mattress like I was contagious.

I figured he was still mad about the guy I’d added on Snap, so I did what I always did: draped myself over him, nuzzled into his neck, let my hands go where they wanted.

He just lay there, jaw tight, eyes still closed, trying so hard not to react. God, that only made me want him more. I leaned in to kiss him.

[Callum is literally cringing out of his skin. How is she STILL pawing at him with zero shame? No wonder her life gets ruined later.]

[She can’t actually believe he thinks she’s special, right?? He only kept her around past his three-month rule because Sienna’s lucky number is nine. He’s literally dragging this out to nine months just to mess with Sienna.]

[Exactly. Sienna heard he’d been with someone this long and PANICKED, so she came running back. Our endgame couple is about to reunite!!]

I pulled back to my side of the bed without a word. Farther than before.

Callum’s eyes opened. He watched me for a long moment.

“What’s wrong?”

That voice, low and rough around the edges, undid me every time. I was already inching closer.

[LMAOOO Callum is literally fishing for an excuse to dump her, and she thinks he’s being SWEET?? I can’t.]

“Nothing. I’m just tired.”

I shifted closer to the edge of the bed.

Callum rolled onto his back. He might’ve shifted toward me, just barely.

“Since when do you sleep this early?”

His phone screen lit up, flashing the time.

On any other night, I’d have been all over him by now.

His resistance was the whole game. The harder he pulled away, the more I wanted in.

Even now, the heat coming off his body was messing with my head.

I didn’t even know where these comments were coming from. They could be completely wrong, right?

If Callum didn’t want me, why was he still in this bed?

No guy would share a bed if he wasn’t interested.

He was playing hard to get. Obviously. The whole reluctant act was just foreplay. He couldn’t help himself. Right?

…Right.

I slid my hand toward him again.

[Oh my GOD, she’s going for it again. He JUST got comfortable and she’s already grossing him out??]

[Callum would NEVER share a bed with her if it wasn’t to make Sienna jealous, okay?? She better not get it twisted.]

[Girl is CLUELESS. Has she not noticed he’s basically falling off the bed every time she gets close? No wonder her ending is so brutal…]

Every dirty thought in my head went cold.

I pulled my hand back without a sound.

I shut my eyes, but the comments kept scrolling behind my eyelids.

Callum cleared his throat, a cough meant to sound casual. When I didn’t bite, he shifted closer.

“I don’t have early classes tomorrow. You?”

A week ago, I would’ve read that as an invitation. But now…

[Sienna is coming back tomorrow. He’s literally coaching her to be clingy so Sienna walks in on them together. He’s DIABOLICAL lmao.]

[Callum and Sienna’s chemistry is INSANE. I’m obsessed with this couple.]

[Too bad Maren is still technically his girlfriend. She’s so clueless.]

[Don’t worry. Her storyline is almost over anyway. Every cringy thing she’s done is gonna come back to bite her SO hard.]

Something in my chest clenched.

Callum tried again. “Maren?”

My name in his mouth hit different tonight.

He only ever used my name in bed. And even then, only because I begged him to.

On any normal day, getting that name out of him was like pulling teeth.

I used to tell myself he was just bad at affection. But tonight he was saying it like it cost him nothing, stone-cold sober, and it wasn’t for me. It was for her.

Then his body was against mine. His chest pressed against my back, warm and unsteady.

“Maren…”

Would he really do all this for her?

My chest tightened, suddenly heavy and starved for air. I rolled further away from him.

“I have an early start tomorrow.”

Callum went still for a second.

“Then get some rest.”
