I Called Him from Under an AVALANCHE, But He Declined to Bed His Secretary Chapter 08
She saw his arms around me, and something inÂ
her snapped the look on her face wasÂ
murderous. “Hazel… Why are you back?! WhyÂ
couldn’t you just stay gone? You came here toÂ
wreck my family!”Â
She grabbed me and ripped me out of his arms.Â
She was screaming, hands clawing at the air,Â
lunging for me.Â
Julian caught her with one arm, his face twistedÂ
with disgust. “Enough!”Â
I watched, and something about it surprised me.Â
Three years ago, they used to be inseparable. HelÂ
would’ve done anything for her. What happened?Â
Sienna watched Julian shield me, watched himÂ
shout at her instead.Â
Tears rolled down her face. “Julian, I’m your wife!Â
Three years – you’ve spent the last three yearsÂ
chasing after this bitch!”Â
“You don’t give a damn about me or your own.Â
son!” Julian’s face darkened.Â
Then she switched tactics just like that. TheÂ
rage vanished and she was begging, voice smallÂ
and broken. “Julian, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t haveÂ
yelled.”Â
Her eyes went wide and desperate. “Let’s just go.Â
home, okay? Please? You haven’t been home inÂ
months, Julian. I’m begging you.”Â
I stood there and watched. This wasn’t the same.Â
Sienna who’d sat on my bed three years ago,Â
touching my husband’s sheets with a smile on herÂ
face.Â
Her hair was chopped short, hanging limp andÂ
shapeless around her face. Her skin looked.Â
–Â
sallow. Her eyes were raw red–rimmed,Â
bloodshot, the eyes of someone who hadn’t.Â
stopped crying in years.Â
I didn’t feel satisfaction. I didn’t feel vindicated. IfÂ
anything, I felt sad.Â
I saw the old me in her. Julian shook her off. “Don’tÂ
touch me. You make my skin crawl.”Â
“I’m not coming back. Keep the house. I’ll makeÂ
sure you’re taken care of financially. But we’reÂ
getting a divorce the sooner, the better.”Â
Every drop of color drained from Sienna’s face.Â
Her eyes went empty.Â
Emptier than mine had ever been and I’d gone blind. “What did you say?”Â
“A divorce?” She was shaking from head to toe. Then her eyes locked on me, and the grief turnedÂ
to poison.Â
“It’s you… This is your doing, Hazel! You put him. up to this! You bitch you fucking bitch!”Â
“I’ll ruin you!” She lunged at me. Julian caught her and shoved her back. She hit the ground hard.Â
“Enough! This has nothing to do with Hazel! I’mÂ
the one who’s done with you!”Â
He shut his eyes. Even his anger looked exhausted. “Three years we’ve been married.Â
Three years of you losing your mind every time aÂ
woman so much as looks at me.”Â
“How many deals have you blown up? You ran off every female secretary in the office. What else do you want from me?!” Sienna sat on the ground, face streaked with tears.Â
“That’s my fault…” A laugh ripped out of her – ugly, raw, nothing funny about it.Â
“You’ve done this before! You had an affair withÂ
me your own secretary! What did you think wasÂ
going to happen?” Julian went still.Â
The fight went out of him all at once. “Yeah. It’s allÂ
my fault. And this is what I get for it. Sienna, we’reÂ
destroying each other let’s just end it.”Â
“I’m asking you – please – just let me go.” SiennaÂ
dragged herself to her feet. “Not a chance. You’reÂ
never getting rid of me.”Â
She turned and walked away. Harper and I lookedÂ
at each other. Neither of us had words.Â
Julian stood with his back half–turned, unable toÂ
meet my eyes. A bitter smile flickered across hisÂ
mouth. “This is what learned, Hazel. For what IÂ
did to you.”Â
“I regret everything… If I could go back – God,Â
Hazel, I wouldn’t I’d never…”Â
His shoulders were shaking. I didn’t know what toÂ
feel.Â
My voice came out quieter than I expected.Â
“There’s no such thing as going back, Julian. ThereÂ
never was.”Â
“It’s done. Now go. And don’t come looking for meÂ
again.”Â
He didn’t move. He stood there with his headÂ
bowed, shoulders heaving, and the sound that toreÂ
out of him was barely human.Â
“I’m sorry…” I turned and walked inside withÂ
Harper, leaving him standing there.Â
Minutes later, the sky opened up. Rain hammeredÂ
down in sheets. I never once looked back.
