My Heart No Longer Beats for You Chapter 05
The dark look in Daisy’s eyes seemed to brighten up. She thought there was hope.
Daisy started to become thoughtful. She said, “I’ve thought about it on my way here. The Trumans and Sagers have already announced the marriage alliance.
“If I told the public that this was just a show, it might be a blow to both our families’ companies, especially mine.
“That’s why I can’t leave Corey for at least a year, but I will arrange a house for you that has excellent security.
“You can live there, and I’ll visit you whenever I have time.
“Once I’ve taken over the company, I’ll wait for this to die down and announce to the media that Corey and will be getting a
divorce.
“After that, I can finally marry you publicly.”
I said nothing after listening to her, but Sienna was enraged.
She questioned Daisy, “Aren’t you just making Eric your secret lover that can’t be seen in public?
“You took him away from me with every dirty trick in the book, and this is how you treat him in the end?”
When Sienna and Daisy courted me at the same time, I did not accept either of them because the Chapmans and Trumans were rich and influential.
Not long after, I was accused of plagiarizing Corey’s thesis by my hostel mate.
Daisy helped me gather evidence day and night to prove my innocence, and she ultimately succeeded.
This was the primary reason I accepted her.
Back then, she had given me unconditional trust and love.
It reminded me of my sister’s love for me when she was still alive.
Yet, now…
I looked at Daisy. For some reason, she seemed triggered by Sienna. Her expression turned dark.
“What right do you have to lecture me, you witch?!”
She looked at me after that. There was confidence in her eyes.
“Think about it, Eric.
“You won’t find a better woman than me.
“Besides, Sam would eventually need to study in Capital City. How is he going to make it here without me?
“You should think about Sam even if you’re not thinking for yourself.
“He’s the only family you have left from your sister.”
My heart sank when I heard her words. Hate filled my heart.
I did not expect her to continue using Sam to threaten me at my second chance at life.
If this were her version of love, it was pretty despicable.
Sam retorted, “I don’t need your help. I can make it in the city if I study hard enough.”
Daisy’s face fell, but she later burst out with a laugh. “You’re still young, Sam Landry. I do not blame you for not understanding the world, but…”
She looked at me. A sinister look flashed in her eyes. She started to speak in an eerily soft tone.
“You’ll agree to this, won’t you, Eric?”
I smiled. I replied calmly while Sam and Sienna stared angrily at Daisy, “Of course.”
Sienna was disappointed. “How could you agree to that, Eric? You are…”
She did not finish. Her eyes were red. She looked defeated and had lost all her spark.
Sam cried and shouted, “Don’t do it, Uncle Eric. I will not study in Capital City, all right? Let’s go back to our hometown. Our home!”
I could not help but tear up when I saw how sad he was crying.
My sister had brought me up by stopping her studies and working. She had suffered a lot for me.
To prevent me from being bullied by the town residents, she married the town mayor’s son even though she did not like him at
all.
When Sam’s father cheated on her, she got a divorce adamantly and moved away with me and Sam to the city where I was studying high school.
Life was hard, but happy.
During my last year in high school, my sister met with an accident at the construction site.
From that day onward, Sam and I only had each other.
Iswore to take good care of him and give him a happy and peaceful life.
Sam did not disappoint us. He studied hard and was obedient.
Back in my past life, he was the school valedictorian and had a great future ahead.
However, when Daisy found out I was trying to escape, she framed Sam for sexually attacking a girl who was his junior and faking his results, just to teach me a lesson.
Sam had no way of proving his innocence and was expelled from the school. He lost his will to live life fully after that.
When he found out that he was the reason that kept me under Daisy’s control, he committed suicide by jumping off the building.
I coughed up blood from those horrible memories.
Sam was shocked as he cried and called out, “Uncle Eric!”
Sienna got flustered and quickly went to get the doctor.
Daisy was at a loss for what to do. “What’s happening to you, Eric? Don’t scare me.”
I shook my head as I tried to suppress the hate in me. I said to Sam, “Be good, Sam, and I’ll be happy, understand?”
Sam understood what I meant. He was like a trapped animal as he glared unhappily at Daisy.
It took some time, but he finally nodded and said, “All right.”
