The Game Character I Raised Was a Powerful Dynasty Heir Chapter 09
Over the weekend, I received a text message.Â
[Saturday at 8 p.m., The Paramount Club. We look forward to seeing you there. – William Shaw]Â
I stared at the text message for a long time,Â
hesitated for a moment, and finally decided to go.Â
take a look.Â
I was just sitting around anyway, so I might as wellÂ
go out and see the world.Â
The dinner was held at the most exclusive privateÂ
club in New York, attended by the city’s elite.Â
As soon as I walked in, I felt a lot of eyes on me-Â
some curious, some scrutinizing, and someÂ
hostile.Â
Whispers could be heard coming from allÂ
directions.Â
“Isn’t that the Lynn family’s real heiress? Wasn’tÂ
she kicked out? How dare she show her face at anÂ
event like this?”Â
“I heard her engagement was called off; now she’sÂ
just a down–and–out laughingstock.”Â
“I wonder whose coattails she’s riding…”Â
I turned a deaf ear to it and made my way through the crowd with a glass of champagne in my hand.Â
As I was walking, a tall figure appeared in front ofÂ
- me.Â
It was William.Â
Tonight he was wearing a black suit, which made him look even more refined and aloof. He stood naturally by my side, shielding me from thoseÂ
hostile stares.Â
“Are you nervous?” he asked in a low voice.Â
I shook my head. “What’s there to be nervous about? Anyway, what those people think doesn’t really affect me.”Â
William looked at my nonchalant expression, andÂ
a hint of a smile flashed across his eyes.Â
Halfway through the banquet, a shrill voiceÂ
suddenly rang out.Â
“Hey, isn’t that Nina?”Â
I turned my head and saw Chloe walking towardÂ
me in her high heels.Â
She had somehow managed to slip in; her face bore her usual fake smile, but her eyes were filledÂ
with malice.Â
“I never expected my sister to be capable ofÂ
hooking up with Mr. Shaw–I really have to take myÂ
hat off to her.”Â
I couldn’t be bothered with her, so I turned andÂ
walked away with my glass in hand.Â
Chloe, however, wouldn’t let it go and followed. after me, deliberately raising her voice. “My sisterÂ
was kicked out of the house, and now she has toÂ
get by by sucking up to men. How pitiful!”Â
People around us turned to look and began whispering.Â
I stopped in my tracks, just as I was about toÂ
speak up in protest, William had already walked.Â
over to me and stood in front of me.Â
He stared at Chloe with a blank expression, hisÂ
voice as cold as if it had drifted out of an iceÂ
cellar. “Miss Lynn, did you come to the wrong place?”Â
Chloe’s expression changed. “Mr. Shaw, I…”Â
“You don’t just get an invitation here.” William. interrupted her, his tone flat yet carrying an air ofÂ
unquestionable authority. “I don’t want anyone toÂ
ruin the mood tonight.”Â
Chloe turned pale; she wanted to say something but was silenced by his imposing presence, and inÂ
the end, she could only turn and walk away inÂ
embarrassment.Â
On the way home, it was very quiet in the car.Â
William suddenly spoke up. “Your character in thatÂ
game.”Â
I paused for a moment and turned to look at him.Â
“Do you really like him?” he asked.Â
“How did you know what game I was playing?” IÂ
instinctively asked in return.Â
William didn’t answer, he just looked at me,Â
waiting for my response.Â
I paused for a moment, then nodded. “I really like. him,” I whispered. “He’s been by my side for a longÂ
time. He’s the most important person in my life.”Â
Upon hearing this, William fell silent for a longÂ
time.Â
The streetlights outside the car window flashed by one after another, casting flickering shadows.Â
across his face.Â
I couldn’t make out his expression, but I sensedÂ
that his eyes held something very deep andÂ
complex.
