He Was Her Ex-Brother-In-Law Chapter 10
I stumbled backward. The fire spread fast.Â
Hungry.Â
The bodyguards rushed forward, but CelesteÂ
had doused the stairwell in gasoline. They couldn’tÂ
reach me.Â
I ran to the window. I would’ve jumped, but theÂ
ground floor was burning too.Â
Celeste was laughing.Â
“Go ahead. Jump.Â
Splatter or burn. Doesn’t matter. You die tonightÂ
either way.”Â

I stared at her, and the fear just… vanished.Â

“But has it ever crossed your mind? Even if IÂ
didn’t exist, he would never choose you.”Â
Her face warped.Â
“Shut your mouth!”Â
“Because you were never what he wanted.Â
You just can’t stand losing. You can’t stand losingÂ

Her hand clamped around mine. Her nails dugÂ
into my flesh.Â
“Sienna Sinclair. Who are youÂ
trying to be? A saint?”Â
I shook her off and ran for the window.Â
She scrambled up and came after me.Â
“You’re dying with me!”Â
Then the window shattered from the outside.Â
Asher crashed through, covered in flames.Â
“Sienna!”Â
He grabbed me and shoved me toward theÂ
window.Â
“Jump!”Â
“Where are you…”Â
“I’m right behind you!”Â
Below, the firefighters had the air cushionÂ
ready.Â
I closed my eyes and jumped. I hit theÂ
cushion and bounced.Â
Asher landed right beside me.Â
His body was burned everywhere. But hisÂ
eyes were locked on me.Â
“Are you okay?”Â
I was sobbing.Â
“I’m fine. You?”Â
He smiled, barely, and pulled me tighter. “IIIÂ
make it.”Â
Up above, Celeste stood at the brokenÂ
window. She stared down at us, hollow–eyed.Â
The firefighters surged up and pulled her out.Â
She was rushed to the hospital. Third–degreeÂ
burns across most of her body. She lay in the ICU.Â
Unconscious.Â
A month later, Asher’s burns healed.Â
My grandmother was discharged.Â
My mother and Veronica never came looking for me again.Â
Asher rented out a private island. He invited at handful of friends. Simple wedding. NothingÂ
