0927 Was Her Birthday, Not Ours Chapter 04

I slapped her. Hard.

“Sienna, you’re insane!”

Dylan charged in and shoved me.

My spine slammed into the table corner. The pain knocked the air out of me. I couldn’t straighten up for a long moment.

Something flickered across Dylan’s face, almost guilt , but then he saw Paige’s red cheek and his expression hardened.

“Paige came here to help you, as a friend. What gives you the right to hit her?”

Paige melted into his arms, tears coming instantly, her voice hitching. “It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have come. Dylan, let me go.”

“I can raise the baby on my own… don’t hurt your relationship with Sienna because of me…”

My head snapped up. I stared at her stomach. “You’re pregnant?”

Dylan looked just as stunned.

Paige burrowed against his chest and sobbed harder. “Dylan, the doctor said the baby’s two months. And it’s healthy.”

I watched Dylan’s face soften in real time. I remembered lying in that hospital bed while he said, “We lost this one, but we’ll try again.”

And then he’d gone straight to Paige’s birthday party. He was already working on the next one back then.

“Well, congratulations.”

Dylan’s face turned bright red. He opened his mouth. “Sienna, let me explain. It’s not what you think…”

“Don’t bother. I’ll get out of your way. Since we’re not getting that license, let’s settle what you owe me.”

“My parents sold their house to pay your debts. One hundred twenty thousand. Plus the thirty-five thousand I sent you over the years. That’s one hundred fifty-five thousand. Pay me. Now.”

“Sienna, have you lost your mind?”

Paige’s eyes bulged. “You sold the house because you wanted to. You sent the money because you wanted to. Everything you ate, everything you wore for five years, Dylan paid for it.”

“Your parents’ rent, their groceries, your hospital bills, if anything, you’re the one who owes him!”

“I owe him?”

I pointed at the necklace around Paige’s throat. “Your birthday present. Thirty-six thousand. Bought with my parents’ house money. And your bag… those shoes you’re wearing…”

“You want me to pull the bank statements?”

“Enough!”

Dylan’s face was gray. “Sienna, when did you get so petty?”

“You spent five years with me. Fine. For old times’ sake, I can give you ten thousand in compensation.”

Five years. Working three jobs. Dropping twenty pounds. My parents’ house. The baby I lost.

In his eyes, that was worth ten grand.

This man was rotten to the core.

“Dylan, my belly hurts…”

“Paige, don’t worry. I’m taking you to the hospital right now.”

He scooped her up and hurried out, throwing one last line over his shoulder. “Sienna, you’d better take what I’m offering. Otherwise, I’ll let you find out just how good the Reese Group legal team is.”

I stopped the recording on my phone and sat alone all night.

The next morning, my bank account was frozen. I lost my job.

A text from Dylan: [Sienna, take your last chance. Or even that ten thousand disappears.]

I took a deep breath and went back to the law firm.

Fake appointment screenshot. Chat screenshots. Livestream recording. The confrontations at the Clerk’s Office and the rental.

Five years of transaction records. The house sale contract. The miscarriage medical file. The lease agreement. Hospital receipts.

I pulled a signed retainer from my bag.

“Mr. Montgomery. I want to sue.”
