They Waited for My Sister to Wake, So I Called Off My Wedding Chapter 05
The station was crowded.
Adrian heard the boarding announcement through his earphones. His hand paused, then let go of Iris.
The sudden empty feeling made Iris freeze.
She blinked and asked, “Adrian, it’s almost time to board. If you have something important, you don’t have to
worry about me.”
Adrian snapped out of it and smiled at Iris. “I promised to take you. I’m not turning back now.”
He took Iris’s hand again.
Adrian didn’t know what game Elara was playing, but this time he couldn’t shake the unease in his chest.
After they got on the train and sat down, a passenger recognized Iris.
“You’re the bride from the news, right? The one who bravely won her love back?”
“Are you two going on your honeymoon?”
Iris smiled shyly and started chatting with her. “Don’t worry. That psycho sister of yours? Her baby’s already gone. I did the procedure myself.”
“She can’t threaten your husband anymore.”
Hearing this, Adrian, who had been resting with his eyes closed, snapped them open.
When Adrian sat up straight, Iris and the passenger both froze.
“What did you say?”
The passenger’s face stiffened.
“I–I said the baby she was using to keep him around… is gone.”
Adrian’s heart dropped. He remembered Elara’s pale face when she sat on the sofa yesterday.
He stopped arguing. He just pulled out his phone and frantically called Elara.
But every time, the line said her phone was off.
At that moment, the plane took off.
I looked out the window. Even though I was about to face five years of closed work, my heart felt incredibly
free. Because I was finally going to live a life that belonged entirely to me.
Adrian stood up. Iris asked worriedly, “Adrian, where are you going?”
Adrian didn’t answer. He stood by the door.
He wanted to get off at a stop, but the train went straight to New York City without stopping.
The passenger’s words hit Adrian like a blade to the chest.
Elara’s job was stressful, but she’d always wanted a child.
They’d agreed to have only one. Elara wanted to give their child all the love she’d been denied as a kid.
He hadn’t expected Elara to be so decisive. He also hadn’t expected himself to be so stupid.
When Elara was already in so much pain, he’d thought she was just trying to make Iris feel bad.
Adrian suddenly remembered the Instagram post he hadn’t opened today.
Elara’s profile picture had changed from their wedding photo to a solo shot.
Adrian clicked into it with trembling fingers. Elara hadn’t posted a picture. Just one sentence.
[When you lose something, something better is waiting. I’m going to live a new life.]
Tears fell silently from Adrian’s face. She’d posted it at ten in the morning. Elara had given him a chance, but
he’d been busy waking Iris up.
He’d seen it and hadn’t opened it. He’d just turned off his phone.
The scenery outside flickered light and dark. Adrian ached with every mile.
He knew this train was heading to New York City. He had cut off Elara’s path with his own hands.
Elara’s Instagram was still public. But every post about him had been deleted.
Even the memories from their four years of college, the awards they’d won together, the places they’d
checked in, were all gone.
Elara had once said that even though her parents favored Iris, she had the best Adrian.
And now, her new life… Adrian laughed at himself. He had no right to be part of it.
A huge sense of loneliness swallowed him. He sobbed without caring how he looked.
Like this train that wouldn’t stop until New York City, the distance between him and Elara only grew.
Just then, Iris found him and asked nervously, “Adrian, what happened? Is it because of the baby?”
