I Drugged the Snake Beast Alpha… And the System Screamed I Chose the Wrong Mate Chapter 08
I sat with Rowan through most of the night. He opened his eyes just as dawn broke.
Relief hit me so hard my eyes burned.
“Rowan, you’re awake.”
“Don’t cry.”
His hand came up slowly, still unsteady, and brushed the tears off my cheek.
I reached for the bowl of broth I’d had waiting.
“You haven’t eaten anything. Drink this first.”
Rowan drank from the bowl in my hands, one slow sip at a time.
[A bowl he could finish in two gulps, and this man is taking tiny sips. He’s dragging it out so she’ll
keep holding it. I SEE YOU, ROWAN.]
[It’s giving “I’m still too weak to feed myself” when he’s absolutely fine. Classic move.]
It took Rowan over two weeks to heal. Every day I changed his bandages, brought him food, and
wiped him down.
The sponge baths, though, he fought me on every time.
“Sloane, you don’t have to. I can do it myself.”
“If I don’t, you’re going to start smelling rank.”
Rowan stiffened. He discreetly sniffed his own arm, completely panicked.
“Do I actually smell?”
I shoved him back down on the bed and ran the cloth over every inch of him.
“You’re hurt. Just let me help.”
I grabbed the hide covering at his waist and pulled it off in one motion. Rowan went scarlet from his
chest to his ears.
[Dominant side character vs. shy villain: WHERE IS HE GONNA RUN?]
[Wow… I mean, I’m not looking. I am absolutely NOT looking.]
[One glance and you can TELL that man is packing heat. I’m just saying what we’re all thinking.]
[Taking notes. When I get a boyfriend, we are absolutely doing this.)
One look at the comments and I yanked the hide covering back over him.
“Fine. Do it yourself.”
[She’s so SELFISH. Gets the full-course meal and won’t share a CRUMB with the audience?)
[You can’t just flash that and take it away. I barely saw ANYTHING.]
Over my dead body was I letting them see that.
Once Rowan was back on his feet, we moved into our own cabin again. Silas and Julian had stopped by a few times during his recovery, arms loaded with food, their version of an apology.
Chloe came by too.
She had the ember lion cub with her. The little thing had filled out since I’d last seen it, round and glossy, and it clung to Chloe like it had no intention of letting go.
