My Best Friend’s Brother is My Ex Chapter 13
It was probably the most torturous night of SorenÂ
Shaw’s life.Â
Hours dragged by.Â
Watching the steady rise and fall of her breathing.Â
in bed, he finally exhaled.Â
When the doctor arrived, he looked like absoluteÂ
hell.Â
He didn’t give a damn about appearances.Â
Soren grabbed a bath towel and wrapped MilaÂ
Hart up tight.Â
Not an inch of skin showing. Only then did he letÂ
the doctor into the bedroom.Â
After treatment, she stabilized.Â
She was sleeping deeply now.Â
“Fortunately, the drug levels in Miss Hart’s systemÂ
were low.”Â
“Once she wakes up, she should be fine.”Â
Hearing this, Soren finally relaxed.Â
After seeing the doctor out, he returned to theÂ
bedroom.Â
Standing there, watching her, fear crashed throughÂ
him again.Â
He’d just missed her so damn much today.Â
Found out she was at a group dinner and wentÂ
after her without a second thought.Â
Never imagined he’d walk into that scene.Â
The memory of Ryan Mitchell laying hands on her made his vision go red.Â
Before bringing her home, he’d confronted Ryan.Â
No. Confronted wasn’t the word.Â
Soren had beaten the living shit out of him.Â
Every punch landed. No mercy.Â
“It was my fault.”Â
Ryan wiped blood from his lip.Â
And admitted it.Â
“My buddy gave it to me. Told me after tonight,Â
Mila would be devoted to me forever.”Â
“I got greedy for a second and spiked her drink.”Â
“But I never meant to hurt her, I just-”Â
He didn’t get to finish.Â
Another fist connected.Â
After scooping her into his arms, Soren shot RyanÂ
a glacial look.Â
“You touched her. You know what comes next.”Â
“You’ll be getting a Cease and Desist Letter. And that’s just the start.”Â
Silence filled the room.Â
Soren stood before the floor–to–ceiling windows, jaw tight.Â
He couldn’t let himself think about it.Â
What would’ve happened if he’d been even a fewÂ
minutes later.Â
He couldn’t. Not ever again.Â
Even if he had to force her, he was keeping Mila byÂ
his side.Â
Soren’s mind drifted back.Â
To the night he’d carried her out of the bar.Â
Ryan had called out to him, blocking his path,Â
expression unreadable.Â
All blind confidence. A young guy who didn’t knowÂ
any better.Â
“Mr. Shaw, you look way older than us.”Â
“Honestly? You and Mila aren’t from the sameÂ
world.”Â
“So I’m telling you–drop it. You two don’t fit.”Â
Soren studied Ryan for a long moment.Â
Then let out a soft, derisive laugh.Â
“You’re competing with me?”Â
“So what if I am?”Â
Ryan’s brows knitted, hostility radiating off him.Â
Soren looked completely unruffled.Â
“You hesitated to take a drink for her. How exactlyÂ
do you plan to protect her?”Â
“Yeah, I’m a lot older than Mila. I don’t see that as aÂ
problem.”Â
“Money. Power. And yeah–sex. Anything sheÂ
wants, I can give her.”Â
Ryan’s body jerked at that.Â
Soren’s lips curved, steady and sure.Â
“She’s mine. That’s final.”Â
In the darkness, Soren’s jaw tightened.Â
His gaze fell on the woman in bed.Â
Tender. Devoted. And completely his.
