Eloped Ex Wanted Me Back? I Became His Mafia Godmother! Chapter 09
My jaw dropped.Â
I knew Dante was hitting rock bottom, but I didn’tÂ
think he’d completely lose his mind.Â
By the time I got to the roof, he was balanced rightÂ
on the edge.Â
His eyes were bloodshot, and he had a knife dugÂ
deep into Sienna’s neck.Â
She was covered in bright red blood, her eyes shut tight like she was seconds away from passingÂ
out.Â
The moment Dante saw me, he started crying likeÂ
a baby.Â
“Mara, you came,” he choked out. “I knew you stillÂ
cared. You still love me, right? Why else would youÂ
get here so fast?”Â
“Run away with me, Mara. Let’s start over. I’ll treatÂ
you like a queen this time, I swear!”Â
Honestly? I thought he belonged in a psych ward.Â
He was a wanted criminal on the run, and heÂ
seriously thought he could drag me into his mess?Â
I looked at him, completely deadpan. “Don’t flatterÂ
yourself. The cops begged me to come. If I knewÂ
you were holding Sienna, I wouldn’t have evenÂ
gotten out of bed.”Â
Dante’s face twisted with pure, ugly rage. HeÂ
pressed the blade harder, screaming into the wind.Â
“I’m in this gutter because of this bitch! After theÂ
company went under, I went to grab myÂ
emergency cash, only to find out she’d beenÂ
draining my accounts behind my back!”Â
“And her dying? All a scam! She was never sick! She never let me go to her doctor appointments because she was busy spending my money onÂ
male escorts!”Â
“I felt off last week and got tested. I have HIV,Â
Mara! This nasty whore gave me HIV!”Â
The sheer amount of trash drama made my headÂ
spin. I just stood there, stunned.Â
But Dante took my silence as a sign. He looked atÂ
me, begging with his eyes. “Mara, with modern medicine, HIV isn’t a death sentence anymore. CanÂ
you just give me one more…”Â
“No!”Â
I cut him off, disgusted. “Dante, looking at youÂ
makes my skin crawl. You will never, ever get myÂ
forgiveness.”Â
“I have a husband who worships me, and twoÂ
beautiful kids. You’re a broke, diseased felon.Â
What makes you think I’d ever take you back? Do IÂ
look like a garbage disposal to you?”Â
The last bit of light in Dante’s eyes completelyÂ
died.Â
He let out a hollow, pathetic laugh and draggedÂ
Sienna back another step, right over the ledge.Â
“You’re right. A piece of shit like me doesn’t get aÂ
second chance.”Â
“I ruined you, Mara. My hands are too dirty. It’sÂ
time to pay the bill. If there’s a next life, I’ll doÂ
better.”Â
Before the words even faded, he twisted aroundÂ
and hauled Sienna off the roof with him.Â
As the wind rushed past him, his life flashedÂ
before his eyes.Â
He saw Mara, four months pregnant.Â
Under the warm lights of their old home, she hadÂ
taken his hand, placing it gently on her belly.Â
“Dante, look. The baby is kicking.”Â
Feeling that tiny heartbeat, the pure rush ofÂ
becoming a father had kept him awake all night.Â
He remembered staying up to order a stack ofÂ
parenting books. He had promised himself he’d beÂ
a protector, a good husband.Â
But he blew it. He blew all of it.Â
He let his own cheap lust blind him until he hadÂ
nothing left.Â
He just hoped that wherever he was going, he’d get a chance to make it up to that baby.Â
It happened in the blink of an eye. Down on theÂ
street, the crowd went into a frantic scream.Â
Before I could even look over the edge, a pair of large, warm hands covered my eyes. “Don’t look, baby. It’s ugly.”Â
Adrian had stepped up right behind me.Â
I leaned back into his chest, letting out a longÂ
breath. “He finally got his karma.”Â
The sun finally broke through the clouds, burningÂ
away the dark shadow of the last five years.Â
Some things can never be forgiven.Â
But thank God, I finally found my way out of theÂ
dark.
