Eloped Ex Wanted Me Back? I Became His Mafia Godmother! Chapter 08
I looked at him like he was a piece of dirt. “ThatÂ
baby died five years ago! He suffocated inside me because you locked me in that burning car!”Â
“You have blood on your hands. You can never fixÂ
this!”Â
It was like his entire world just blew up.Â
Dante went pale, dropped to his knees, and buriedÂ
his face in his hands. He completely broke down,Â
crying like a baby.Â
“No… that can’t be. I didn’t know.”Â
“I didn’t know it was that bad! I was going to come.Â
back for you, but Sienna stopped me! She saidÂ
you’d be fine, she said she already called anÂ
ambulance! That’s why I-”Â
Suddenly, his face twisted with pure rage. He spatÂ
the name through his teeth: “Sienna!”Â
“She did this to me! It’s all her fault!”Â
Classic Dante. Still passing the buck, still playingÂ
the victim.Â
I just let out a cold laugh.Â
“She’s a monster, but what does that make you?”Â
“You cheated on your pregnant wife and left her toÂ
die. You’re worse than she is.”Â
“Honestly? You two deserve each other. StayÂ
together forever and leave the rest of the worldÂ
alone.”Â
“And don’t you ever show your face around meÂ
again. Next time, I’ll kill you myself!”Â
I turned on my heel. In the distance, Adrian’sÂ
meeting was over. He was standing there, waitingÂ
for me.Â
I lifted my skirt and ran toward him, smiling.Â
Behind me, Dante completely lost his mind, screaming like a lunatic. “All men are trash! YouÂ
think I’m bad? You think Adrian is a saint?!”Â
“He’s at the top of the food chain, Mara! He playsÂ
way dirtier than me! You’ll never be happy with him! We’re endgame, Mara! Only me!”Â
I didn’t even look back. I just ran faster.Â
The guards dragged him away, his pathetic screaming fading into the ocean breeze.Â
I threw myself into Adrian’s arms. He scooped meÂ
up by my waist and immediately crashed his lips.Â
onto mine, kissing me hard.Â
“Forget him,” Adrian mumbled against my mouth.Â
“Don’t waste your breath on trash. Next time, I’llÂ
just have the boys shoot him.”Â
“Don’t listen to a word he says. I love you. You andÂ
I are forever.”Â
I couldn’t help but laugh.Â
But Dante’s words did stick in my head for aÂ
second. It made me think about how I first metÂ
Adrian.Â
Back then, I was a walking corpse. My mind and body were completely shattered.Â
I had went to the beach to bury my baby’s ashes,Â
but I was so numb, I just kept walking straight intoÂ
the deep water. I wanted to drown.Â
Right before I passed out, a strong hand grabbedÂ
my wrist like a vice and yanked me back.Â
When I woke up, the smell of hospital bleach burned my nose. I looked up and saw a pair ofÂ
deep, pitch–black eyes.Â
“I don’t know your story, but you need to live. YourÂ
baby wouldn’t want you to throw your life away.”Â
That was the first thing Adrian ever said to me.Â
After that, he just forced himself into my life.Â
He knew what I went through, but he never pried.Â
He was just there.Â
He got me the best therapists, took me out forÂ
walks, forced me to eat, and slowly glued myÂ
broken pieces back together.Â
Then, he proposed.Â
He knew I was terrified of marriage. So before weÂ
even signed the papers, he transferred more thanÂ
half of the Valenti empire to my name.Â
He even signed a prenup: if he ever cheated, he’dÂ
walk away with absolutely nothing.Â
He looked me in the eye and said, “Mara, marriageÂ
isn’t a trap. Let me be your safety net. I will neverÂ
cheat on you. Just give me a shot.”Â
Dante wasn’t completely wrong–power changesÂ
men.Â
But Adrian gave me real, hard security.Â
Even if he does screw up one day and betray me?Â
Fine. I have enough money and power to ruin himÂ
and start over on my own.Â
The next time I heard about Dante, I was back inÂ
New York.Â
The police called my private line out of nowhere.Â
“Mrs. Valenti, your ex–husband is currently holdingÂ
a woman hostage at knifepoint. He’s demanding to see you.”Â
“It’s a hostage situation, and it’s turning ugly. WeÂ
need you down here right now.”
