Rejected Fate Chapter 09
I let out a helpless sigh and told Xavier the whole story from beginning to end.Â
Xavier let out a cold mocking huff right after.Â
“He only remembers to water the tree after it’sÂ
already withered. Where was he all those years.Â
before?”Â
“Izzy, an Alpha like him is never reliable. Don’t ever soften your heart for him again.”Â
I looked at the obvious displeasure flickering in hisÂ
eyes and couldn’t help but laugh softly.Â
“Then what kind of Alpha do you think isÂ
trustworthy?”Â
Xavier pointed straight at himself without aÂ
moment’s hesitation, his tone earnest and sure.Â
“Myself, of course.”Â
That night, Xavier and I planned to head out forÂ
dinner.Â
Daniel appeared out of nowhere out of the blue,Â
staring at Xavier with full–on wariness and hostile pheromones rolling off his body.Â
“It’s unsafe for you to go out at night, Isabella. LetÂ
me accompany you.”Â
Xavier glared back at him unhappily, jawÂ
tightening.Â
“I think Izzy is far less safe staying alone withÂ
you.”Â
A bitter smile curved Daniel’s lips.Â
“I’ve asked around clearly.”Â
“You are not her mate, not officially or innately.”Â
“She has no bonded mate right now. My pursuit ofÂ
her has nothing to do with you.”Â
A deep weariness washed over me completely.Â
“Daniel, stop this pointless entanglement.”Â
Your constant disturbance of my daily life will only,Â
make me grow to hate you.”Â
Panic flashed across Daniel’s face instantly at myÂ
words.Â
“I only want to chase you properly.”Â
“I only want to protect you.”Â
“You still have no mate bonded to you. I still standÂ
a chance.”Â
I held his gaze quietly, then lifted my hand and tugged Xavier’s collar down gently.Â
Before Xavier could react to the sudden movement, I leaned in and kissed him softly.Â
Xavier froze stiff on the spot like a woodenÂ
sculpture, utterly stunned and at a loss for what toÂ
- do.Â
I caught sight of his ear tips flushing bright red once again, burning hot with embarrassment.Â
I pulled away slowly, then turned to face Daniel with a calm, unwavering expression.Â
“Now you have no chance at all.”Â
Daniel’s lips trembled uncontrollably, every inch ofÂ
his face drained of color.Â
“Isabella… you are just putting on an act to driveÂ
me away, aren’t you?”Â
“No.” I looked straight into his desperate eyes,Â
tone firm and sincere.Â
“You know my character well. I never toy withÂ
anyone’s sincere feelings for a meaninglessÂ
show.”Â
The last glimmer of light in Daniel’s eyes shatteredÂ
completely the second my words fell.Â
He stood frozen in place, lost and hollow,Â
drowning in regret and despair.Â
I knew he would never come to disturb my lifeÂ
again.Â
I took Xavier’s hand and turned to leave withoutÂ
another glance backward.Â
We walked a long distance in silence before XavierÂ
suddenly tightened his grip around my hand firmly.Â
A faint blush still lingered on his handsome face.Â
“Izzy, you…”Â
I pulled my hand away from his grasp with aÂ
deliberately cold expression.Â
Panic rushed to Xavier’s face at once, and heÂ
rushed to explain nervously.Â
“I know you only used me to reject Daniel justÂ
now.”Â
“I won’t misunderstand your intention, so please. don’t be angry with me.”Â
I could no longer hold back my laughter uponÂ
seeing his flustered look.Â
“You such a coward, Xavier.”Â
I took the initiative to lace my fingers with hisÂ
again, speaking softly and clearly.Â
“Let’s go, my chosen mate.”Â
Xavier froze entirely on the spot, dumbfounded.Â
The next second, a bright, genuine smile bloomed.Â
across his face, warm and relieved, as if he hadÂ
finally welcomed the long–awaited moonlight intoÂ
his arms.Â
“Izzy.”Â
“I have loved you for so long.”Â
“I know.”Â
“I have always known.”Â
Many years later.Â
My moonwood carving work won top honor at theÂ
Crescent Auction House.Â
I became the youngest official Moonwood MasterÂ
across the entire werewolf continent.Â
Normally, works crafted by newly famous carving masters would not fetch an overly high bidding.Â
price.Â
Yet my work was sold at a price ten times higherÂ
than the pre–estimated value.Â
I grew confused instantly and asked Xavier to takeÂ
me to the auction house right away, wanting toÂ
confirm whether the buyer had made a biddingÂ
mistake.Â
Xavier smiled gently and comforted me.Â
“Perhaps someone simply adores your carvingÂ
works wholeheartedly.”Â
I shook my head helplessly.Â
“I would not be surprised if works made by you or Master Sanders sold at such a sky–high price.”Â
“It is far too strange for my work to reach thisÂ
value.”Â
When we arrived at the auction site, I spotted a familiar yet unfamiliar man standing quietly beside my moonwood carving.Â
He was extremely lean and gaunt, only in his thirties yet already streaked with silvery white hairÂ
among his dark locks.Â
He stared fixedly at the wooden carving without moving a single step for a very long time.Â
Xavier’s expression turned complicated theÂ
moment he caught sight of the man’s face.Â
“Daniel.”Â
Daniel turned around upon hearing his name andÂ
offered us a faint, bitter smile.Â
Deep, unspeakable sorrow lingered in his tiredÂ
eyes.Â
I nodded politely at him as a simple greeting, thenÂ
held Xavier’s hand tighter and turned to leaveÂ
without lingering.Â
Humans and wolves alike always start to cherishÂ
what they have lost only after missing it forever.Â
But once something or someone is missed andÂ
gone, there is no point in clinging to pastÂ
nostalgia.Â
The sunlight was soft and warm that day.Â
A faint, calming scent of wood drifted in the gentle.Â
wind.Â
I walked side by side with my destined wolf,Â
stepping far away from the faded moonlight ofÂ
the past.Â
From then on, I lived beneath my own warmÂ
sunshine.Â
This time, I walked forward without a singleÂ
hesitation or backward glance.
