Rejected Fate Chapter 05
My phone kept buzzing with messages the entire drive away from Blackshadow Pack.Â
I frowned, growing annoyed at the endless.Â
notifications.Â
Xavier reached over, took my phone and poweredÂ
it off completely.Â
“There, no more disturbances. Get some rest. I willÂ
wake you once we arrive.”Â
I closed my eyes and fell asleep peacefully.Â
Upon reaching Silverpine Pack, Master Sanders scolded me nonstop for half an hour straight.Â
Even so, my heart felt light and joyful.Â
This place housed countless rare moonwoodÂ
varieties I had never seen or studied before.Â
I threw myself wholeheartedly into carvingÂ
learning, leaving no room in my mind for anythingÂ
else.Â
Until one day, I spotted Daniel right outside theÂ
entrance of the Moonwood Guild.Â
He looked completely wrecked–stubbleÂ
shadowed his jaw, and his hair was a tangledÂ
mess.Â
His eyes lit up the second he caught sight of me.Â
“Isabella!”Â
I turned at once, ready to walk away.Â
He hurried after me and grabbed my wrist tightly.Â
“Quit acting like a child! I spent days tracking youÂ
down here.”Â
I stopped in my tracks and stared at him calmly.Â
“Daniel, I made myself crystal clear that night.”Â
“I don’t love you anymore. I’m never going back toÂ
Blackshadow Pack. All I want now is to masterÂ
moonwood carving.”Â
His fingers tightened abruptly, squeezing my wristÂ
until dull pain spread through my skin.Â
“I refuse to believe it.”Â
“You chased me for eight years, confessed to meÂ
countless times.”Â
“I will never believe you have fallen out of love withÂ
me.”Â
“Come back with me right now, and I will acceptÂ
your confession.”Â
He looked at me with blatant arrogance, fully convinced I would beam with joy, obey him.Â
without hesitation, and stay by his side like IÂ
always had.Â
I fixed my gaze on him and asked plainly, “Daniel,Â
why do you want me back? Do you truly love me?”Â
His eyes flickered away nervously. He parted hisÂ
lips yet could not utter a single word.Â
I stared straight into his evasive eyes withoutÂ
blinking.Â
“You do not love me at all.”Â
“You only love the feeling of being chased.”Â
“You only enjoy turning me down time after time.”Â
“Do you know how many times I confessed toÂ
you?”Â
His face darkened uncomfortably.Â
“How could I keep count? You kept coming to meÂ
with confessions all the time.”Â
“Ninety–nine times,” I answered for him coldly.Â
“You rejected me ninety–eight times. The lastÂ
acceptance was nothing but an April Fools‘ prank.”Â
Panic flashed across Daniel’s face. He loosenedÂ
his grip on my wrist unconsciously.Â
“It was April Fools‘ Day. Everyone knows nothingÂ
said that day counts.”Â
“Only you, obsessed with your wooden carvings,Â
took it seriously.”Â
“Fine, I was wrong.”Â
“I should not have toyed with your confession.Â
Now will you come back with me?”Â
I let out a soft laugh.Â
His so–called apology was never sincere. He onlyÂ
wanted me to return and revolve around him onceÂ
again.Â
I looked him dead in the eye and spoke each wordÂ
slowly and firmly.Â
“Daniel Grant, I, Isabella Jordan, reject you as myÂ
mate.”Â
After uttering the official mate rejection, I feltÂ
absolutely nothing inside.Â
My inner wolf felt no pain, no sorrow, no lingeringÂ
heartache at all.Â
In stark contrast, Daniel turned deathly pale. HeÂ
clutched his chest tightly, as if something.Â
irreplaceable was slipping away from his soulÂ
rapidly.Â
Right then, Xavier’s voice drifted over from theÂ
guild doorway.Â
“Izzy, it’s time for your class.”Â
I ignored Daniel completely and ran straightÂ
toward Xavier.Â
“Isabella, you will regret this!”Â
A furious roar burst out behind me.Â
I waved my back casually, no hesitation in myÂ
tone.Â
“I won’t.”Â
We stepped inside the Moonwood Guild.Â
Xavier suddenly halted his steps.Â
“Izzy, are you really over that foolish alpha?”Â
I shook my head firmly. “I am.”Â
“You will never go back?”Â
I shook my head again without a second thought.Â
“Never.”Â
Xavier let out a quiet sigh of relief.Â
He raised his hand and ruffled my hair gently.Â
Then he walked off with a spring in his step I’dÂ
never seen from him before.Â
I had never seen the steady, composed XavierÂ
walk in such a carefree way before.Â
Xavier looked genuinely happy.
