Rejected Fate Chapter 04
Xavier was Master Sanders‘ first apprentice, andÂ
my senior fellow disciple.Â
He had already grown into a top master ofÂ
moonwood carving across the entire werewolf continent.Â
Countless pack Lunas spared no expense with rare moonstones, just to own a single carving crafted by his hands.Â
I led him into my bedroom.Â
A small cloth pouch rested on top of the wardrobe, holding the carving tools gifted to me by Master Sanders.Â
On my coming–of–age day, Daniel had given me a set of custom carving knives, engraved with bothÂ
our initials.Â
“You will only use the knives I give you from nowÂ
on, Isabella.”Â
“I want every moonwood piece you make to bear my mark, to tie you to me forever.”Â
Right after that, he had tucked my original carvingÂ
set from Master Sanders onto the wardrobe top,Â
far out of my reach.Â
Back then, I had drowned in sweet bliss, taking his rude act as fated mate possessiveness born fromÂ
love.Â
Now, I only found it ridiculous. It was nothing more than unreasonable domination from a selfishÂ
alpha wolf.Â
“Could you help me get that small cloth pouch up there, Xavier?”Â
I stood on a chair and pointed toward theÂ
wardrobe top.Â
“Of course.”Â
He stepped forward gently and helped me down. from the chair steadily.Â
A furious roar suddenly exploded from theÂ
doorway.Â
“What are you two doing?!”Â
Daniel stood there, eyes blazing with rage andÂ
utter disbelief.Â
His usual fresh pine alpha scent turned sharp and suffocating, flooding the room with a powerfulÂ
pheromone that instinctively tried to crush myÂ
wolf.Â
I flinched and hid behind Xavier without thinking.Â
The sight only fueled Daniel’s fury further.Â
He took one aggressive step forward.Â
Xavier’s tall frame blocked his path completely,Â
calm and unyielding.Â
A cold flicker of danger flashed in Daniel’s eyes.Â
“You intend to take Isabella away again? I forbidÂ
it.”Â
Xavier let out a faint mocking chuckle.Â
“You already have your chosen mate. Why do yourÂ
still meddle in where Isabella goes?”Â
“You-”Â
I stepped out from behind Xavier and faced DanielÂ
directly.Â
“Daniel, I am leaving on my own free will. XavierÂ
only came here to pick me up.”Â
Daniel stared at me, refusing to accept my words.Â
“You are just saying that out of anger.”Â
“I admit I spoke too harshly at the banquet. You doÂ
not have to threaten me by leaving the pack.”Â
“You told me before you never wanted to go to theÂ
Northern Wastes. If they are forcing you, I willÂ
protect you.”Â
A faint weariness washed over me.Â
“Daniel, I have always loved moonwood carving,Â
ever since I was little.”Â
“You know perfectly well who stopped me fromÂ
leaving all these years.”Â
I remembered it all clearly. When I turned fifteen,Â
Master Sanders noticed my carving talent andÂ
invited me to formally study at the MoonwoodÂ
Guild of Silverpine Pack in the Northern Wastes.Â
I turned him down without hesitation.Â
All because of Daniel.Â
Master Sanders extended his invitation countlessÂ
times afterwards, yet I rejected every single offer.Â
There was even a time I finally agreed to leave forÂ
good.Â
That night, Daniel showed up at my door reekingÂ
of strong alcohol.Â
His eyes were red–rimmed, fingers gripping mine.Â
tightly, voice low and hoarse.Â
“Isabella, don’t leave. Please.”Â
“I cannot bear to be apart from you.”Â
My heart had crumbled right then.Â
I once believed the fated mate bond outweighed all my talent, dreams and future prospects.Â
“Daniel, I am tired. I no longer want to chase afterÂ
you.”Â
“From now on, I only want to focus on myÂ
carvings, those useless wooden pieces you haveÂ
always looked down on.”Â
With that, I turned and walked out alongside.Â
Xavier.Â
Daniel’s face drained of colour. He panicked.Â
instantly and moved to chase after me.Â
But he only took two steps before Nora ran over (Â
and clung to his arm.Â
Her eyes glistened with tears, putting on a look ofÂ
extreme grievance.Â
“Daniel…”Â
Daniel’s hesitation won out. He pulled Nora into his arms comfortingly.Â
I let out a cold, quiet scoff and climbed into theÂ
car without another glance.Â
Daniel heard it immediately. He pushed Nora aside in a rush and lunged after the car.Â
I rolled up the car window completely, cutting off all sight of him.Â
“Let’s go, Xavier.”Â
Beneath the silvery moonlight, the car drove slowly away from Blackshadow Pack.Â
I never looked back.Â
Neither did my inner wolf.Â
Daniel, we will never meet again.
