Eight Years Of Silence Ended When I Saw Him Talk To Her Chapter 09

Eight Years Of Silence Ended When I Saw Him Talk To Her Chapter 09

He stood there, his lips moving, but no words came out.

“I’ll wait for you.”

1

He said those words again.

I laughed.

“Then wait.”

“But I won’t be going back.”

He really did wait.

A month passed, then two, then three.

He came every day, rain or shine.

Sometimes he brought food. Sometimes he brought flowers.

Sometimes he brought nothing at all and simply stood downstairs, quietly looking up at my window.

I drew the curtains shut and refused to look at him.

By the fourth month, he had lost a lot of weight.

His jaw had sharpened, and his eyes looked sunken.

He had stopped wearing suits, and he looked utterly haggard.

One day, he knocked on my door.

When I opened it, I saw a stack of papers in his hand.

“What is that?”

“An asset-transfer agreement.”

I froze.

  • “I already signed it. You just need to add your signature.”

He handed the papers to me.

“I was the one who did something wrong. I hurt you, so I want to make it up to you now.

“I’m giving you everything I own, including the house, the car, and my savings.”

“I don’t want to keep anything.”

I looked at the stack of papers but did not take it.

“Evan, I don’t need this.”

He went rigid.

“The only thing I need is for you to leave my life completely.”

His face turned pale.

His hand slowly lowered, and the papers slipped from his fingers, scattering across the floor.

“Claire…”

“Leave.”

“I even signed over all my assets to you. Do you still not want me?”

I looked into his eyes.

There was pleading in them, a refusal to accept it, and a humility that bordered on desperation.

He was nothing like the condescending Evan from before.

“I don’t want you anymore.”

“From the day you lied to me for the first time, I stopped wanting you.”

“I’m only saying it out loud now.”

He dropped to his knees.

Right there in the hallway, in front of the neighbors, he knelt down.

“Claire, I’m begging you.”

“Come back with me.”

“I’ll change. I’ll treat you right.”

“I’ll never lie to you again.”

I looked at him kneeling on the floor.

This man, who had once been able to soften my heart with a single glance, was now kneeling in

front of me.

But I was not happy at all.

“Evan, get up.”

“If you don’t say yes, I won’t get up.”

“Then stay on your knees.”

I closed the door.

His voice came from outside.

“Claire! I was wrong! I really know I was wrong!”

“Give me one chance. Just one!”

“I’m begging you!”

The neighbors came out to watch, whispering among themselves.

I leaned against the door and closed my eyes.

The tears finally fell.

It was not because I was softening.

It was because I was filled with regret.

I regretted that after eight years together, this was how we ended.

I regretted that I had once loved someone with everything I had.

In the end, I was left covered in wounds.

He knelt outside my door for the entire night.

When I went out the next morning, he was still there.

His knees had gone numb from kneeling, and he could barely stand.

The moment he saw me, Evan’s eyes lit up.

He braced himself against the wall and slowly forced himself to his feet.

“Claire…”

“You don’t need to say anything.”

I looked at him, my tone calm.

“Evan, I want to ask you a few questions.”

“Ask me.”

“About Sophie. From beginning to end, did you think I was just throwing a tantrum?”

“No.”

“Then what was it?”

He was silent for a long time.

“It was my fault.”

“I chased the thrill of something new, and I let you down.”

“I hurt you, and I damaged what we had.”

“I know I was an asshole. I don’t deserve to ask for your forgiveness.”

“Then why are you still here?”

“Because I don’t want to lose you.”

I let out a cold snort, finding it unbearably ridiculous.

“You lost me a long time ago.”

“You lost me the first time you lied to me.’

“Evan, go back.”

“Do you have work here? Do you have a life here?”

“You threw everything away and came here. Did you think I would be moved?”

“I only think you look pathetic.”

His eyes reddened.

“Yes. I’m pathetic.”

“I deserve it.”

“But what am I supposed to do? Without you,

do? Without you, I don’t know how to live.”

Hearing those words, I did not feel moved at all.

“When you were lying to me and spending time alone with Sophie, why didn’t you think that way?”

“Evan, people can survive losing any one person.”

“You’re just not used to it yet.”
