Eight Years Of Silence Ended When I Saw Him Talk To Her Chapter 07

He stood there, clenching and unclenching his hand.

“Please tell me where she is. I have something very important to say to her.”

The receptionist hesitated for a moment, then sighed.

“She went abroad. I don’t know the exact place. I only know it’s somewhere in Europe.”

“Where in Europe?”

“I really can’t say. She specifically told us not to.’

Evan thanked her and turned to leave.

After walking out of the company building, he stood by the road.

He stared at the cars streaming past him and fell into a daze, as if he were thinking about

something.

Europe.

I had gone to Europe without telling him and left on my own.

But he did not give up.

He combed through every social account I had, including TikTok, X, Instagram, and even Facebook.

He searched them one by one.

After an entire day, he found nothing.

My accounts had either been deleted or had stopped updating.

It was as if I had vanished from the internet altogether.

On the third day, he suddenly remembered something.

I had a college classmate studying in Europe.

It took him a great deal of effort to get in touch with that classmate.

At first, the other person refused to say anything.

Later, after Evan kept pleading and pushing, the classmate finally relented.

“Claire is in Lyon, France.”

“What is she doing there?”

“An overseas assignment. Her company’s branch is there.”

Evan wrote down the address, hung up, and started booking a flight.

After more than ten hours in the air, he finally landed in Lyon.

He could not read French and did not even recognize the road signs.

Relying on a translation app, he asked for directions the whole way until he found the building

where I worked.

He waited at the entrance from afternoon until night.

After dark, the streetlights came on.

At last, he saw me walk out.

I was wearing a gray coat, my hair tied back.

I held a document envelope in one hand and looked down at my phone.

I had gained a little weight, and my complexion was much better.

Standing under the streetlight, his heart suddenly began to race.

I walked slowly.

When I reached the bottom of the steps, I looked up and saw the lights in the distance.

Then I saw him.

My steps paused for a moment.

Then I continued forward as if I had not seen him at all.

“Claire.”
