He Sent an Intern to Meet His Parents, I Sent Him a Wedding Invitation Chapter 01

After 3,600 days of dating Brandon Hastings, his parents came to tour the company.

I gave them the tour myself.

From the itinerary to the desserts I’d chosen for his parents, I revised the 223-page reception plan eight times, staying up all night to perfect it.

But on the day of the tour, Brandon told me at the last minute that a new intern would take over everything in my place.

Jenny Parsons took my plan and catered to his parents perfectly.

They even asked Brandon in front of everyone, “Is this the girl you’ve been dating for almost ten years?”

“She’s so clever and thorough. She even knew to swap out our dessert for sugar-free cheesecake. No wonder you like her.”

Brandon smiled and didn’t correct them.

Back in his office, I cried as I asked him why.

He said coldly, “We’re not even engaged yet, and you’re already so desperate to show off in front of my parents. Megan, are you that eager to get married?”

I froze. He brushed past me. “Don’t take it too far.”

I didn’t argue.

On what would have been our ten-year anniversary, he blocked my wedding car as I was heading to marry someone else.

“Didn’t you say you’d marry me? Why are you marrying someone else?”

I smiled. “You don’t like to take things too far, Mr. Hastings. I do.”

Brandon shot me a warning glance and walked out.

I sat in the office for a long time without saying a word.

When I finally left his office, Brandon’s parents had already finished their speech.

Jenny was right there with them.

Barbara Hastings looked at her with obvious affection.

“Sweetheart, since this is our first meeting and I didn’t have anything prepared, let me give you this family heirloom diamond ring.”

My heart jumped from where I stood in the audience.

Everyone knew the family heirloom diamond ring only came out when the Hastings family was giving it to their future daughter-in-law.

Was Barbara really about to take it off and give it to Jenny?

Jenny raised a hand to stop her. “No, no, Mrs. Hastings! This is too precious! I can’t accept it!”

“Still calling me Mrs. Hastings?” Barbara said with a warm smile.

Jenny blushed. “But…”

“It’s fine, dear,” Barbara said, taking her wrist. “We’re going to be family. Why so shy around your future mother-in-law?”

Jenny’s face turned even redder. She looked nervously at Brandon.

From where I stood in the crowd, I clenched my fists, trembling slightly.

Brandon’s gaze swept over my face. He smiled faintly. “If my mom wants you to have it, take it.”

Jenny shyly looked at him, then at Barbara.

Richard Hastings laughed. “She’s shy. You go ahead and put it on her.”

Barbara didn’t refuse. She smiled, took Jenny’s hand, and slipped the ring onto her finger.

Jenny looked down shyly and finally stopped protesting.

Someone popped a confetti cannon. Everyone cheered.

“Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness!”

“Way to go, Jenny! I can’t believe your boyfriend is Mr. Hastings! You kept that secret well!”

“Exactly! You didn’t say a thing. We all thought it was Megan!”

“Honestly, with how hard she worked on this tour, you’d think she was the one dating Mr. Hastings.”

I stood up and left the scene.

Everything proceeded exactly as I had planned.

Today was supposed to be Barbara’s birthday. The surprise toast I had prepared for her was now being delivered by Barbara herself, as a blessing for the new couple.

They rolled out a large three-tier cake.

I watched as people pushed Brandon over to Jenny’s side. Barbara also nudged Jenny toward the cake.

They stood shoulder to shoulder.

Jenny’s face turned red up to her ears.

Brandon looked completely calm. He glanced at her, picked up the cake knife, and asked, “Do you prefer sweeter or lighter flavors?”

Jenny murmured, “I like anything you cut for me, Mr. Hastings.”

That immediately drew cheers and teasing from the crowd.

Barbara couldn’t help smiling. “Look at these two.”

Brandon cut a slice especially for Jenny. “Didn’t you say you like grapes? I saved this piece for you.”

Then he glanced in my direction.

I turned my head and walked back to the conference room without looking back.
