My Choice: A War God vs A Fake Dragon Chapter 01

Chapter 1 The Husband Who Came Back Wrong

After the war between the immortals and the demons, my sister’s husband returned alive.

Mine did not.

Everyone pitied me.

But I knew the truth.

The man who came back was not my brother-in-law.

It was my husband, Cassian.

He and the Crown Prince had been twin brothers, evenly matched in both appearance and power. No one had noticed anything strange.

In my last life, he had explained it to me so calmly that I had believed every word. “Mira, I had no choice. This was for the stability of the realm.

“My brother was the Crown Prince of the Dragon clan. If word spread that the heir had fallen in battle, the clan would descend into chaos.

“And your sister is soft-hearted. She would never survive losing the man she loves. I was only standing in his place for a while. Once things settled, I would return to you.”

I trusted him.

I trusted him right up until the day he accused me of colluding with the demons and had me cut to pieces.

I could still remember the pain. I could still remember looking through blood and seeing him with his arm around my sister, intimate and at ease, while I finally understood that everything had been part of his

scheme.

When I opened my eyes again, I had returned to the day the Dragon clan celebrated victory.

The news had just arrived.

My husband was dead.

Cassian stood in the great hall with one arm around my sister, his silence carefully measured, while the others cast sympathetic glances at me.

This time, I did not hesitate.

If he wanted to wear the dead Crown Prince’s face and steal his place, then I would choose another path.

He thought that pretending to be the heir would let him claim power, wealth, and glory.

What he did not know was that losing me meant losing the only chance he would ever have to become the supreme ruler of the Dragon clan.

“Mira… Cassian is dead.”

The memory of being carved apart had still been lodged in my bones. My body trembled before I even realized I had opened my eyes.

The Dragon King was the one speaking.

He had only two sons. One had been made Crown Prince and had taken my sister as his Crown Princess..

The other had been my husband, Cassian.

And yet now, the man who should have been dead sat upon the royal dais, staring at the coffin ahead with grief written plainly across his face.

Joy nearly surged out of me.

I had come back.

Before I could say a word, my sister’s voice drifted over. “Mira, I know you’re hurting. If you want to cry, then cry.”

She looked down at me with a face arranged into pity, though not a single crack showed in the powder and paint.

I raised my eyes.

Not to her.

To the man standing beside her.

No, that was not my brother-in-law.

The real Crown Prince lay inside the coffin.

The man at her side was my husband, Cassian.

The man who should have been holding me was standing there with his fingers woven through hers.

When he felt my gaze, he turned and looked at me, surprise flickering across his face.

I almost laughed.

His acting was still perfect.

In my previous life, I had suspected something was wrong, but I still needed time-far too much time-to prove that the man beside my sister was Cassian and not the Crown Prince.

This time, I knew from the first moment.

Just then, a sharp wail split the air.

“My son! My son!”

remain alone for a hundred years.”

His voice softened slightly. “I won’t force you. I only want to know what you plan to do.”

I lifted my head. “Then I choose the other road. I will remarry.”

The hall went dead silent.

Every face turned toward me in disbelief.

Cassian reacted first. “Ridiculous. Mira, how could you marry someone else?”

This time, even the Dragon King and my sister noticed the flaw in his outburst.

Finished

The Dragon King frowned, though he still spoke politely. “Caelan, this concerns your brother’s widow. The choice belongs to her.”

Cassian fell silent at once, forced into his borrowed role, and could do nothing but stare at me.

My sister stepped forward more quickly than he did. Her eyes were sharp with judgment. “Mira, your husband has only just died. His body hasn’t even gone cold, and already you’re talking about marrying again?”

Her voice rose. “If word gets out, do you want the world saying the women of the Phoenix clan are as cold- blooded and faithless as you are?”
