A Heart for a Heart Chapter 07
Snorting, I snapped at James, “I’m never believing another word you say! I will call the cops and give them the evidence. You…”
I then pointed at Sue, who was too shocked by James’ confession that she couldn’t even come up with an excuse.” And you. You will both pay for your crimes!”
“Stop her! Don’t let her call the cops!” Sue grabbed James’ arm and shook him forcefully. “We will be in jail if she gives them the evidence! Get a hold of yourself–you can die all you like, but you’re not dragging me down with you!”
I rolled my eyes, arranging the evidence neatly and started toward the door.
James, who didn’t seem to hear Sue, shook her off and grabbed my wrist instead, pain and pleading clear in his voice. “I’m so sorry, Wanda, to either of you-”
The sirens of patrol cars were blaring before James could finish, and he promptly let go of me when the cops stormed inside.
I quickly moved behind the cops as I watched them encircle James and Sue.
“Mr. Frost, Ms. Jenkins-we’ve received a report of your involvement in first-degree murder and illegal organ transplant. Please come with us to assist with our investigation.”
“No! You’ve got it all wrong!” Sue was at once shrieking while pointing at me. “It’s her! She’s the one! She kidnapped my son. Arrest her!”
That was when we heard footsteps upstairs, and everyone looked up to see Nathan emerging from James’ study, rubbing his eyes like he had just woken up.
“Mom? Dad? Are you here to take me home?”
“You set us up!” Sue turned pale as she wheeled on me. “You called the cops and used Nathan to lure us here!”
I shot her a cool glare and handed the cops everything I had. “All the evidence to prove their crimes are gathered here. Please handle it accordingly…”
Sue remained defiant, “Listen up! This is James Frost, sole heir to the Frost family estate and their company! You know who he is, and you dare arrest him?! Are you that keen on losing your jobs?!”
“Keep your hands off me! I haven’t done a thing! It’s James-he planned everything! I don’t know anything!”
James was left gaping at Sue, suddenly a viper lashing out at everything in sight with her poisonous fangs,
realizing just then that he never really knew her at all.
And he certainly didn’t expect that she would try to shift the blame to him altogether!
Before he was shoved in the patrol car, James turned to look at me, his gaze a mesh of emotions.
Regret, guilt… and that love he always so efficiently deceived me with.
Did he think I’d still fall for that?
I met his gaze, my eyes cold as I firmly held Stan’s photo.
I would definitely avenge my boy-everyone who hurt him shall pay!
Nonetheless, the Frosts were influential as ever, quietly calling in every favor as they attempted to get a not- guilty verdict.
However, the gathered evidence proved James’ motives along with the process and planning of that accident.
It just didn’t incriminate Sue enough-at best she was guilty of immorality, but the murder charge just didn’t stick.
Moreover, Sue kept insisting she knew nothing and blamed everything on James.
For James’ part, he never offered any rebuttal at court, likely because he and Sue went way back/
However, the disappointment in his eyes were clear as he watched Sue lie through her teeth, not shying from slandering to avoid any blame.
To see the love of his life suddenly becoming an entirely different person? I could almost empathize, as James was the one who put me through that.
