The Roses Wilted at Dusk Chapter 10
After sending it, I muted her chat.
That night, Marlowe called, her voice carrying a careful
excitement.
“Boss, Dashiell Lockwood fought with Tamsin Calder today.”
“That has nothing to do with me.”
“But what he said had to do with you.”
“Tamsin asked him to confirm the final version of the
Toys. He said he couldn’t read them.”
“Tamsin asked why, and he said because every word was written by Audra Ellison, and he had no right to read
them to someone else.”
I held the phone. Outside the window, the sound of waves. suddenly seemed very loud.
“What did Tamsin say?”
“She said she knew he couldn’t forget you, but she hadn’t expected that even the wedding wasn’t for her.”
“She asked him whether he wanted to save the company, or whether he wanted to use this wedding to prove he didn’t love you that much.”
“How did he answer?”
“He didn’t.”
Marlowe paused.
“Then she reminded him that both families arrive
tomorrow and told him to think clearly about the
consequences.”
“He was silent for a long time. In the end, he said, ‘I’ll take the consequences, but I have to change the vows.””
“Change them to what?”
“I don’t know. He locked himself in his office.”
I hung up and sat in the dark.
My phone screen lit up. It was an automatic push from the wedding system.
Final schedule confirmation reminder.
Groom: Dashiell Lockwood.
Hride: Tamsin Calder.
Special Guest: Audra Ellison.
I stared at my name for a few seconds.
Then I logged into the admin portal and removed every permission I had.
Planner account: canceled.
Coordinator access: transferred,
Guest status: deleted.
Item by item, I cleared everything, tearing down the imaginary house where I had lived for four years.
After the last item was removed, the system displayed a prompt.
You have exited this project.
I clicked confirm.
