Jace felt restless. 

The lights at the wedding venue were too bright, 

making his head spin. 

But what kept replaying in his mind was not Vivienne standing in front of him, but the sight of Mia sitting alone in the hospital corridor getting an 

IV infusion. 

Her face was badly swollen, she was still wearing that faded white couple hoodie, wrapped in his coat, like a small animal soaked by the rain, trying 

hard not to cry. 

A sharp pain tightened in Jace’s chest. 

He suddenly felt a little regret. 

He should not have left her alone at the hospital. 

Not even for a rehearsal dinner. 

His hand was suddenly tugged. 

Vivienne looked at him with an unhappy face. 

“Jace, what are you daydreaming about?” 

“Hurry up and put the ring on me!” 

Jace came back to his senses and looked down at 

the diamond ring in his hand. 

It was a custom wedding ring specially bought by 

the Kingsley family at an auction. 

The diamond was so big it was almost dazzling, 

reflecting cold white fire under the crystal 

chandeliers. 

But for some reason, he suddenly lowered his 

eyes and looked at the deep ring mark on his own.

It was the first time he had worn something so 

cheap in his life. 

No, converted to dollars, it was not even worth 

two dollars. 

It was worth less than a single strawberry he 

usually ate. 

But he missed the feeling of that cheap plain ring 

tightly wrapped around his finger. 

That day, Mia sat in their tiny rental apartment, 

looking at him with bright eyes. 

She carefully slid the plain ring onto his ring finger 

and asked. 

“Jace, we will have real wedding rings someday, 

right?” 

He had laughed and hugged her at that time, 

saying of course they would. 

He said he would buy her the most beautiful ring when he made enough money. 

But three years had passed, and he had bought a sky–high diamond ring for Vivienne. 

Yet he had let Mia wear that cheap plain ring, living with him in that small, damp rental apartment. 

The guests under the stage began to stir. 

Mr. Kingsley coughed coldly a few times. 

Everyone was urging Jace on. 

Those gazes felt like invisible threads, wrapping 

tighter and tighter around his neck. 

Jace hid the loss in his eyes and, as everyone 

expected, picked up the ring and slowly moved 

toward Vivienne’s ring finger. 

Vivienne’s tightly furrowed brows finally relaxed. 

A smile unconsciously tugged at the corners of 

her mouth. 

But at the moment the ceremony was about to be completed, Jace’s hand suddenly stopped. 

Mia’s face flashed through his mind again. 

Sitting in the hospital corridor, her face pale, eye sockets red, but still forcing a smile and saying to 

him. 

“Congratulations on your wedding.” 

A sharp pain shot through Jace’s heart. 

He suddenly could not put the ring on anymore. 

He looked at Vivienne. 

Then at the Kingsley family and Whitmore family under the stage. 

Finally, he spoke with an apologetic tone. 

“I’m sorry.” 

“I have someone I want to marry more.” 

The entire wedding venue fell into dead silence 

instantly. 

Mr. Kingsley crushed the champagne glass in his hand, his face turning purple with rage.. 

“You fool!” 

“Do you think this is a child’s game?” 

“Hurry up and put the ring on Vivienne!” 

Vivienne’s smile froze on her face. 

She frantically grabbed Jace’s hand. 

“Jace, you’re joking, right?” 

“You promised me back then.” 

“You said that girl was just a fling, that you would never fall for her.” 

When Jace heard this sentence, a wave of 

annoyance suddenly surged in his chest. 

Just a fling. 

He had indeed said that at the beginning. 

At first, he was just tired of the Kingsley family’s arrangements, tired of everyone who approached him having an ulterior motive. 

So he pretended to be a poor boy and hid in Mia’s 

world. 

He wanted to see if anyone would truly love him if he had nothing. 

But things were different later. 

Mia would save the best food for him. 

She would buy him a hot dinner after finishing her 

delivery jobs on stormy nights. 

She would pinch every penny for their so–called 

wedding savings fund. 

She truly loved him. 

And he had treated that sincerity as something to 

squander at will. 

Jace shook off Vivienne’s hand impatiently and 

tore off his bow tie neatly. 

“I truly love her.” 

One sentence, and the entire venue fell into silence 

again. 

Mr. Kingsley rushed onto the stage angrily and 

slapped Jace twice in front of everyone. 

The crisp sound echoed through the entire 

ballroom. 

The veins on the back of his hand popped out, and 

he trembled with anger. 

“Are you awake now?” 

Jace let out a bitter laugh and wiped the blood 

from the corner of his mouth. 

His eyes were colder than before, staring firmly at 

his father. 

“Awake?” 

“I have always been awake.” 

“You made me marry Vivienne just to solidify the 

position of the Kingsley family through the 

marriage alliance, didn’t you?” 

“In your eyes, I have never been your son.” 

“I have always just been a commodity that can be 

traded for benefits.” 

“But I don’t want to be controlled by you anymore.” 

His voice fell word by word, heavy and clear. 

“I love Mia.” 

With that, Jace pushed past Mr. Kingsley 

forcefully and rushed out of the wedding venue. 

Vivienne’s tears hung on her eyelashes, and she 

chased after him, dragging her heavy wedding 

dress. 

But the skirt was too long and too heavy. 

She had only taken a few steps when she fell 

heavily to the ground. 

Her veil was blown away by the wind, and Jace’s 

figure gradually disappeared from her sight. 

Jace fled the wedding venue and could not wait to 

drive back to the hospital. 

He did not want the Kingsley–Whitmore marriage 

alliance. 

He did not want the position of Kingsley heir 

either. 

He just wanted to return to Mia’s side. 

He wanted to confess everything to her. 

Tell her he had not meant to lie to her for so long. 

Tell her that at first he had only wanted to escape 

his family’s arrangements and steal a little real life 

for himself with her. 

But things were different later. 

He had fallen in love with her. 

He really wanted to be with her forever. 

But when Jace rushed to the hospital, the corridor 

where he had left her was empty. 

On that bench, there was only a small patch of 

dried bloodstain. 

And a piece of medical tape left behind after she 

pulled out the IV. 

Jace’s breathing suddenly became chaotic. 

His heart felt like it was being tightly squeezed by 

an invisible hand, hurting so much he could barely 

breathe. 

He grabbed a passing nurse at random, his voice. 

hoarse. 

“The girl who was sitting here getting an IV 

infusion just now.” 

“With a facial injury, wearing an old white hoodie.” 

“Where is she?” 

The nurse rolled her eyes at him speechlessly. 

But soon, as if she remembered something, her 

tone instantly became excited. 

“Oh, I remember now.” 

“You mean your girlfriend, right?” 

“Her family came to pick her up.” 

The nurse lowered her voice, but still could not 

hide her excited gossip. 

“She left in a HELICOPTER.”
