By the time I changed clothes and found my 

mother, she had already introduced Caleb to 

everyone. 

“That’s right. My future son–in–law is wonderful. He 

sends me gifts every major holiday. He’s just been. 

too busy with the Army. They’ve been together for five years, and today is the first time I’ve finally 

met him.” 

Hearing that, my steps faltered. 

Caleb’s gaze grew heavier, and a guilty, apologetic look crossed his face. “I’m sorry. From now on, no matter how demanding my duties are, I’ll come back with Lily to visit you.” 

My mother beamed, completely won over by his 

words. 

Then she turned to Sophia’s mother and showed him off. “See? I told you our Lily had good taste. Caleb is every bit as good as Zachary.” 

The moment those words landed, Zachary, who had come by the table for a toast, looked utterly thunderous. 

His fingers tightened around his glass until his 

knuckles turned pale, and his gaze hardened with anger when he looked at me. 

Seeing that, Sophia quickly changed the subject. 

“Thank you all for taking time out of your busy 

schedules to attend our wedding.” 

Zachary wore a stormy expression the entire time 

and said nothing. 

His gaze stayed locked on Caleb and me. 

I could clearly feel the heat of his stare on me. 

But I did not turn back to look at him. 

Caleb acted as if he did not see them either. 

Calmly and unhurriedly, he kept placing food on 

both my plate and my mother’s. 

When the wedding finally ended, I went to the 

private lounge to get my bag before leaving. 

Zachary suddenly appeared and grabbed my 

wrist. 

“Lillian, what is going on with you and him?” 

He seemed truly furious, and he did not hold back 

his strength at all. 

Pain shot through my wrist. 

I sucked in a sharp breath. 

But I did not pull away. 

“What happens between me and him has nothing 

to do with you.” 

“Nothing to do with me?” He let out an angry laugh. “Lillian, have you forgotten what we are to 

each other?” 

I laughed too, but only because it was ridiculous. 

“We served together.” 

His expression shifted, hardening into something 

ugly. 

“That’s all.” 

The moment I said those words, his grip on my 

wrist tightened even more. 

“We served together? That’s all? Lillian, have your 

forgotten the five years we were together?” 

I yanked my hand free and took a step back. 

“When did I ever date you?” 

“Zachary, your girlfriend is Sophia Brooks. Your 

wife is Sophia Brooks too.” 

“Lillian!” 

Zachary was furious. 

There was no trace of his usual smile left on his 

hostile expression. 

“How many times do I have to tell you? I was only doing her a favor. Other than that, there’s nothing 

between us!” 

“Really? Then why did you go home with her as her 

boyfriend? Why did you let everyone know about 

your relationship?” 

“Zachary, during the five years we were together, I 

asked you countless times to come home with me 

and meet my parents. Did you ever say yes?” 

I had not wanted to bring any of this up again. 

But he insisted on dragging the ugliness out into 

the open. 

“You lied to me and said you had an exercise, then 

went home with Sophia to see her family. When 

you were at her house and introduced yourself as her boyfriend, did you ever remember that I was 

your girlfriend?” 

“Sophia is shy. Her family was pressuring her, and 

she wanted someone to pretend to be her 

boyfriend so she could get them off her back. I 

was the only man she knew well enough to ask, so 

I helped her!” 

Swallowing his anger, Zachary humbled himself 

enough to explain.
