She Swapped My College Codes, So I Sent Her to a Tech School Chapter 06

When her daughter collapsed, Patricia’s scream

cut through the crowd.

Jessica! My Jessica! What’s wrong?”

Wake up, don’t scare me like this. You’re my only daughter. If something happens to you, I won’t be able to go on.”

She scrambled over and pressed her hand against Jessica’s forehead.

Everyone panicked.

Someone yelled to call an ambulance, while others crowded around to see what was happening.

My mom tugged my sleeve.

Emily, maybe you should go check on her. What if something was really wrong?”

I didn’t move, but looked down at Jessica’s pale face and gave a cold smile.

In my past life, when she destroyed my family, my

best friend never came to check on me.

Before anyone could even dial 911, Jessica’s eyes

shot open.

She scrambled up off the ground, gripping the

acceptance letter and screaming, No! I was

supposed to go to Ashford. This letter is mine.”

The whole crowd fell silent.

Everyone stared at her.

Patricia froze, afraid Jessica would say too much

in her rage, and rushed to grab the letter.

Jessica, stop talking nonsense. Give the letter

back to her.”

No.Jessica held the letter tighter, knuckles white

and eyes bloodshot. This was supposed to be

mine. The Ashford spot was supposed to be

mine.”

I walked up to her, pretending to be shocked.

Jessica, what are you talking about?”

You always told me your score was borderline and you weren’t sure you’d even make the Ashford

cutoff. How come you’re so sure now that the

spot was supposed to be yours?”

Her face turned white.

Her eyes darted around, and her lips trembled, but

no words came out.

II just wanted to go to Ashford so badly. I got

confused. That is all.”

Yeah. Jessica is just confused.”

Patricia quickly jumped in to smooth things over,

snatching the letter out of Jessica’s hands and

shoving it back at me.

She has always been competitive. Not getting

into Ashford hit her hard. Don’t take it personally,

everyone.”

The neighbors whispered among themselves.

That didn’t sound like confusion to me.”

Yeah. What did she mean by supposed to be

mine?”

Jessica bit her lip, tears streaming down her face.

She gave me a venomous look. Are you happy now, Emily? I’ll never be as good as you.”

I frowned. Jessica, how can you say that? If I got into Ashford, you should be happy for me. We’re best friends. Who said anything about

competing?”

We’re not best friends! She shrieked, pushed Patricia away, and ran home covering her face.

Patricia shot an awkward smile at the neighbors

and chased after her.

The crowd dispersed, still gossiping as they left.

My mom sighed. What happened to her?”

My dad patted my shoulder. Forget her. Let’s go

home and celebrate.”

I watched Jessica’s retreating figure, my eyes

cold.

This was nothing, everything your family owes me, I’m going to take back, piece by piece, with

interest.
