His Stallion Was Hers, But the Plains Had Other Choices Chapter 06

When I got home, Mom was pacing outside like crazy.

“I heard someone fell at the stables today. Thank God you’re safe!”

“I wanted to call and check, but I didn’t want to bother you.”

“How was Caleb? Did everything go okay?”

Her lips were chapped. She’d been so worried she hadn’t had a sip of water.

I poured her a glass. “It went great.”

“He’s going to talk to his mom. We’ll all get together in a few days to plan the wedding.”

“Mom, stop worrying.”

She finally breathed.

When Dylan got to the hospital, Chloe’s parents were already there.

Her mom flew at him, crying and hitting. “This is all your fault! Why did you take her riding?”

“She’s our only daughter! If something happens to her, how can I live?”

Chloe’s parents were outsiders who moved to town late. They didn’t own horses. They never wanted her doing anything as dangerous as riding.

Dylan stood there and took it.

Three hours later, the OR doors opened.

“She’s out of danger. But her right leg was crushed. She may walk with a limp.”

“Also, the trampling damaged her uterus. She likely won’t be able to have children. You should prepare for that.”

“What?”

Chloe’s mom’s eyes rolled back. She fainted.

Dylan stood there helpless.

He didn’t understand how things got so bad.

Chloe slept a full day in the hospital. When she woke up and heard the news, she cried for hours

No matter how Dylan tried to calm her, she wouldn’t stop.

He hadn’t slept in over a day. His head was splitting. He was exhausted.

Her crying just made him more irritated.

“Alright, stop.”

“You’re the one who snuck onto Storm instead of Tessa. So this is on you.”

The crying stopped. Chloe stared at him in disbelief. “You’re blaming me?”

“Storm’s always gentle. How was I supposed to know he’d go crazy?”

Dylan paused. Realized the same thing.

Storm loved Chloe. Why would he snap?

“Tessa did this to me!”

Chloe’s teeth clenched. Pure hate in her eyes.

“She must’ve known I’d ride Storm. She drugged him to make him crazy!”

Dylan went pale and covered her mouth. “Don’t say that.”

Chloe glared at him with red eyes. “Then you tell me why a good horse went crazy.”

“Who else hates me that much besides Tessa?”

Dylan had no answer.

Chloe’s laugh was uglier than crying.

“See? You can’t even argue.”

“She can’t stand how close we are. She did this to hurt me.’

“I’m not letting her get away with it.”

The day Chloe got out of the hospital to come after me was the same day both families had

confirmed my wedding to Caleb.

She rolled up in a wheelchair, Dylan right behind her, face dark. “I told you to handle that guy Not marry him!”

Chloe was losing her mind. She pointed at me and screamed. “Tessa ruined me. I broke every limb

and I can’t have kids.”

“And you want this witch as your daughter-in-law?”

Caleb’s mom turned and looked at us apologetically.

“If that’s true… I might need to rethink this engagement.”
