Mom panicked and turned to Dad.
“What are you hesitating for? Is money more important than our daughter?”
Dad looked down at the pale, fragile Serena in his arms.
Pain and struggle flashed across his face.
Two seconds later, he made his decision.
“Fine.”
He looked at me coldly.
“But in exchange, you have to give half of your life force to Serena.”
Afraid I would refuse, he immediately added:
“If you don’t agree, then there won’t be any deal.”
“Serena has always been weak. Once we lose our money, she won’t survive for long. You’re obviously good at calculating things, Sloane. You should know which choice benefits you.”
My fingers slowly curled into my palm.
“You’ve really thought of everything, haven’t you…”
I looked at them calmly.
“Fine. I agree.”
“Give me the Sigil Papers first so I can heal Roo. Once we’ve signed the contracts, I’ll return him to you.”
I smiled faintly.
“Otherwise, how do I know you won’t back out?”
“Deal,” Dad said immediately.
While we waited for the lawyers and documents, both sides hid their true intentions.

Dad’s expression softened immediately.
“Serena, money can always be earned again.”
He looked at her tenderly.
“Nothing is more important than your life.”
Serena cried even harder, deeply moved.
I impatiently pulled the contracts toward me.
Dad’s face darkened.
“Figures. We didn’t raise you ourselves, and you don’t have a shred of gratitude.”
I laughed.
“You treated me terribly.”
“You tried to kill me.”
I looked at Serena.
“If you had treated me the way you treat her…”
I paused.
“…I’d still choose the money.”
“You!”
That nearly made them explode with anger.
I carefully checked every page.
There were no hidden clauses.
Without hesitation, I signed both contracts.
Dad snatched them away almost instantly.
Mom looked at me.
“All right. Give Roo back to us, and we’ll give you the contracts.”
“Once this is over, you can leave.”
I glanced toward the tightly locked doors.
“And why should I trust you?”
“What if you decide to beat me to death the second I hand him over?”
Dad’s expression shifted.
He let out a cold snort.
“You think I’m as despicable as you are?”
I smiled.
“Who knows?”
This was a joke.
Fate had given me a second chance.
And this time, I intended to treasure it.
I would take back everything they owed me, piece by piece.
I wouldn’t let a single one of them off the hook.
I had already given them a chance once.
They had still chosen to kill me.
