Eight Years As His Secret Lover, I Married The Top Mafia Don Next Saturday Chapter 05

I walked into the top-floor office area, and every person there stared at me with complicated expressions.

They’d all seen my social media post with Lucius. Those who’d once looked down on me now viewed me

with newfound respect.

I headed straight for the human resources department and placed my signed resignation and handover

forms on the desk.

The HR supervisor picked up the papers, looking reluctant. “Sabrina, you’ve worked here for eight years. Are you really leaving?”

“Eight years is long enough,” I said with a calm smile. “Time to turn the page.”

I finished the paperwork and stepped out of the HR office, only to run straight into Bella in the hallway.

She wore a designer Chanel coat and carried a luxury Hermès handbag, radiating the arrogance of someone who believed she was soon to be the Moretti family’s Donna.

A flicker of unease crossed her face when she saw me, but she quickly put on a bright smile.

“Capo, I heard you’re getting married. Congratulations!”

She leaned in and lowered her voice, her tone laced with suspicion.

“Capo, is your relationship with Don Gambino real? Or is this just some kind of act…”

She trailed off, but her smug look made it clear she thought I was faking the entire engagement.

I pulled out my phone and held it up for her to see my chat history with Lucius.

His most recent message was sent that morning. [I finished altering the wedding gown. I’ll bring your homemade breakfast sandwich when I pick you up later.]

I scrolled upward to show her photos of the wedding venue, handwritten schedule drafts, and multiple samples of wedding favors for me to choose from.

Every message was filled with sincere care and thoughtfulness.

Bella’s smile faded, and she forced a nervous laugh.

“Wow. He’s quite attentive, isn’t he?”

I put my phone away and looked directly at her. “Did you finish that little game of yours? I heard you’re supposed to file for divorce soon.”

Her expression froze completely.

“We… we plan to take care of it today.”

I nodded once and said nothing more.

I walked out of the main entrance and glanced back at the building I’d called my workplace for eight years.

The lights were still on in Slytherin’s office on the eighteenth floor.

He was most likely standing behind the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching me leave below.

I waved casually, just as I would to an ordinary employer, then turned and walked away.

The next week kept me busier than ever.

I completed onboarding for my new role at the Colombo group, coordinated details for the Gambino partnership, and finalized every last wedding arrangement. I barely slept more than five hours each night.

Lucius was even busier. As the Don of the Gambino family, he spent his days holding back-to-back meetings to plan the alliance with the Colombo clan.

Yet he personally oversaw every single detail related to our wedding.

He inspected flower samples for the venue, tasted every flavor of wedding favor candy, and double-checked the guest list three times over.

My mother watched his efforts closely and never stopped praising his thoughtfulness.

My father rarely spoke about matters of the heart, but he brought the subject up over dinner one evening.

“Lucius took over the Gambino family and defeated three rival factions. He’s ruthless when he needs to be, but always fair. He’s a man who will protect you for the rest of your life.”

He paused and glanced my way. “He’s a hundred times better than the leader of the Moretti family.”

I knew he was trying to comfort me.

He and my mother had opposed my relationship with Slytherin from the very start.

They’d seen his greed and coldness long before I had.
