I Broke The Game Rules To Kill The Sister Who Broke Our Bond Chapter 04

The countdown alarm shrieked through the underground chamber.

Gideon’s face darkened. He ripped his tie loose with a snarl.

“Damn it. Mandatory dungeon cycle. The system’s pulling us back in.”

Veronica’s lip curled. She jabbed a finger up at me, still hanging from the chains.

“What about her? We’re just gonna leave her here like this?”

“What choice do we have? If we skip the summon, the system wipes us out.”

Something cold passed through Gideon’s expression. He hit a switch on the wall. The chains around me wrenched tighter, and he let out a sharp breath through his nose.

“Keep her alive. Barely. We’ll finish wringing her out when we get back. Relax. It’s a farmed-out B-class dungeon. Few hours, tops.”

“Lucky bitch.”

Veronica spat at me.

Twin flashes of white light, and they were gone.

The basement went silent.

I looked down at the shackles around my wrists.

High-tier restraints. Strong enough to hold down any monster in this game. But my body was already so broken that pain had stopped meaning anything.

Blood filled my mouth. I smiled anyway, the kind of smile with nothing good behind it.

I wrenched my left hand sideways against the edge of the shackle and snapped my own thumb and wrist out of joint.

Crack. The sound bounced off every wall.

I didn’t flinch. I pulled my mangled, blood-slicked hand straight through the ring.

With one arm free, I reached up and released the other. My dead weight dropped, and I crashed onto the concrete.

Something inside me lurched. Black blood came up again.

I braced my good hand against the floor and dragged myself forward. Inch by inch. My legs were useless.

I made my way up the dark stairs and out of the basement. The bone butterfly knife was still lying in the corner of the corridor where it had landed.

My fingers closed around it. The familiar weight of bone against my palm made something in my blood light up.

One step, two steps.

With my weapon back in hand, I kept dragging myself toward the ICU.

I left a long smear of blood behind me the whole way.

I shoved the ward door open.

Melanie was exactly where I’d last seen her, motionless, reeking, barely distinguishable from a corpse. The heart monitor kept beeping, thin and mechanical.

I hauled myself up on the bed rail and looked down at her. That face used to be alive, vivid, beautiful. Now it was gray and hollowed out. I felt nothing.

“Melanie. It’s over. No more letting them bleed you dry.”

No more words. I flipped the knife into a killing grip, lined it up with her heart, and brought it down.

The blade sank through flesh and muscle like they were nothing.

Warm blood hit my face. The heart monitor let out one long, continuous whine, the green line on the screen flatlining.

At that exact moment,

Inside the game. The Withered Woods.

Gideon strolled out of the teleportation array with his arm around Veronica’s waist.

“Gideon, this place is creeping me out…”

“Scared of what?”

Gideon nudged his glasses up, pressed a kiss to her hair, and spoke like a man without a single worry in the world.

“It’s a joke. Bottom-tier B-class. With the god-tier gear I bought using those credits? I could clear this blindfolded. Stay close. Think of it as a vacation.”

The words were barely out of his mouth when the sky split open, a jagged, blood-red crack tearing across the darkness.

The ground under their feet heaved.

And then the system voice kicked in, that cold, mechanical female voice that made even top-tier players go pale, blasting across every server in the game at full volume.
